I disagree with everything you just said.

They are likely to sign another guard to run the 2nd unit

Dell has done a great job these last few years finding a good backup guard later in the offseason for the min. I think he will again.

I just want a couple of 6'5-6'8 explosive athletes that can run, leap out of gym and throw down a thunderous dunk. That shite is just awesome and exciting. When is the last time we have a true rim rattler like that? I mean Davis can jam, but he's 7ft tall and it just seems routine watching him do it. Have we had any great dunker since JR Smith?

What's going on with Yogi Ferrell

Are you 14 years old?

If I wanted fundamentally sound basketball with set shots and lay ups, I would watch the WNBA..

The next guard they get won't "run the second unit"
They are looking for a guy to compete with and/or be an insurance policy for Frank Jackson. He will be a combo guard or a 2, not a pure point. This offense doesn't want/need a Chris Paul type ball dominant point. The ball will move, so the guy just needs some handles but the ability to penetrate and kick or finish, along with knocking down the three ball will be far more important than "running the offense"

My lizard brain also wants to see Vince Carter jump over some Lithuanian dude or whatever. Half the reason I was so hard up for guys like DeRozan back in the day or Jaylen Brown.

Jaylen Brown dunked the ball 54 times last year. Derozen - 28
So, out of every three games, Jaylen will dunk it twice. Derozen once. There are approximately 200-220 possessions in a game. That one dunk won't make the entirety of the game that much more exciting.
Oh, and by the way... Anthony Davis dunked the ball 211 times next year so if you guys really love it so much, you get it way more with him than this wing guys you covet so much who barely do it

quote:Who of those would you prefer? Nwaba? Crawford can score, but really had a bad year last year and at 38, will he rebound? Swaggy can shoot, but is streaky and not sure how he is in the locker room.
I don't think they see Swaggy as the best fit, as much as they see him as the best possible value for the min. If they had their dream scenario, the last guy would be more combo guard than pure 2. Thats why I think Jamal Crawford is also in play. Nwaba makes some sense, Connaughton, Jason Terry, Ty Lawson, etc

I would take Devin Harris. I trust him on ball and he is a good cutter off ball. He is a good enough shooter and he brings experience and leadership. The other guy I am intrigued by is Connaughton. Portland doesn't play very fast and I think that is why we haven't seen his skill set maximized yet. I would love to see his athleticism unleashed in the fastest offense in the league.
Another guy I would consider is Afllalo. I think he has lost his excitement for the game being on that garbage team. But he can hit the open three and he has good size on D.
End of day, I want a guy who won't be terrible if he gets 10-14 mins, but who also will be good in the locker room if Frank beats him out. I don't want a guy who will pout if he isn't playing. My worry is Crawford and Nick Young would do that

I’m totally on board with getting a combo guard with an Okafor type personality to compete at being the fourth guard. I feel like you would do better getting an older vet to fill that role by playing within his skill set and system than some young 22-25 year old who feels like he has something to prove and always does to much if he gets in the game. My only thing is that I just want him to be able to knock down 3 pointers.

Think this number will reduce much since Rondo has gone?

You totally missed the point. I want a skywalker that can come in and electrify the crowd every once in awhile, by throwing down an insane dunk or doing something otherworldly. Davis is really the only decent dunker on the team. But its too easy for him. Its like watching Shaq dunk, they barely have to leap.
As far as another guard, does that mean Moore is really going to stay at SF? We really only have one pure PG (Payton). But a ton of combo guards. Do they really need another?

Have you not seen Frankie's highlights?
He had the best vertical at the combine of EVERYONE

And my point is that these "sky walkers" don't really exist anywhere except for Sportscaster Top 10 players. They might have some sort of impact in your mind, but not in reality.
In the course of an NBA week, there might be 8-10,000 possessions and you MIGHT see two dunks a week where a guy tomahawks over someone.
If you were a real GM, and that factored into who you were going to sign, you would be a bad GM
As for combo guards, it makes sense if you consider Finch/Gentry offense. There is no need for a pure point, and in fact you can argue it is a detriment at times to the system.
Look at the second half of Denver's 2016-17 season, where they were the best offense in the league. No pure points on the roster. It would be like complaining about not having 2-3 good fullbacks when your team runs a spread offense

You really don’t see these highlight dunkers because they are almost dinosaurs. Everyone loves the long ball now. Look at fast breaks now. They used to be filled with highlight dunks and now people run to the 3 pt line.
