Spurs coach Gregg Popovich’s new five-year deal is worth more than $80 million, sources tell ESPN. His deal resets the coaching market after Monty Williams’ recent six-year, $78.5 million deal with Detroit.

I guess that means the Spurs are going to be a problem when Wemby gets his feet under him...

Saw this coming. No way he'd retire with a generational talent like Wemby.

Wemby is such a natural successor to Boris Diaw

His last few teams have had no talent and they are always competitive.

This is great news. Pop has been washed for about 6 years. Ever since he started worrying about politics more than ball.

May have had more to do with the lack of talent on their team.

Nah. He lost focus. Their entire organization did. Wemby and 5 years of Pop ain’t saving that. I’m 1000 times more concerned with the Rockets than the Spurs tbh.

Nope. And, for those conspiracy theorists, that is why he stayed through a "rebuild" for the Spurs even though many did not understand why. Many saw Wemby to the Spurs coming a year earlier.

Pop is already the oldest coach ever. Hubie and Larry Brown were both only 71 when they stopped coaching. Pop is already 74. He will be 80 after 5 more seasons

Some people on this board are tripping! Pop is still the best NBA coach. They need to stop being so fragile about his politics and respect his success (current and past).

Sounds pretty immature not to be able to separate his political views from his job performance. Hell John Elway and Drew Brees are my top favorite QBs of all time but I disagree with their political views. Can’t take that stuff so personal guys.

He’s one of the people that have been criticizing the lack of “minority” head coaches in the NBA. He should practice what he preaches and not hold on to the job until he’s a fossil. Give it up to a minority.

Okay, Pop has been giving women and minorities an avenue into being a successful NBA head coach by coaching jobs and mentorship. However, I will retract my previous statement and follow up with “Most non racist and/or fragile minded people can separate his stances and respect his coaching abilities.”

You know what the best avenue to being a head coach is? Actually having head coach openings.

Or even better teaching them to become HCs so they can stay one. I’d rather learn from the best than to become one when I’m not ready.

He can take an AHC job and still teach, so I don’t see the point of your statement
