Very lightly protected or a conveyed pick swap at minimum.

I wouldn’t worry that Dieng is not playable, but more I don’t know if we would have ton of minutes for him. His contract is stupid though.

I think it would be worth it for Covington and some type of 1st round pick compensation.

Yeah I was just thinking about that.

What it really means to me is some guys getting hugely overpaid but short term.

Many of the contracts given out in the next 48 hours will be stupid, but I'm not worried. If the Pels had a line in the sand that took them out of the running with Horford they should be able to control themselves and be patient with the other FAs.

People need to remember

1) We have a basketball brain trust now. We hired 2 of the top GM candidates available at the same time.
2) Unlike Demps for the last 5+ years, their seat is not even remotely hot. They have a long enough timeline to be patient and so far we're seeing evidence that they will be patient.

Durant doesn’t rely on athleticism. He’ll be fine.

I don’t understand the leaking of that now, it was reported at least a week ago that the Warriors were still going to offer by Klay and Durant max deals this offseason, regardless of injuries.

ETA: with the way that Durant has handled this it seemed to me like he already has max offers from every team that he is considering, and he’s just choosing one of them.

ETA2: I guess the Warriors could avoid any stories about them being cheap by leaking beforehand that they offered him the most they possibly could.

Perhaps it drives it up enough for them to get in on the dump deals. Maybe you don't need a 1st to take someone like Gallinari if the alternatives you sign will be worse values.

I still think the Pels are in the running for Horford. The whole bit about them being "outbid" is a cat-and-mouse game.

Pels offered something like 3/79, which Horford liked, but he wants a 4th year. So agent says Pels are being "outbid." Not true. They are just trying to set a price tag for Horford hoping someone like the Kings get crazy and offer 4/100. Problem is, Horford doesn't want to go to Sacramento. and if that 4/100 deal was out there right now, Horford wouldn't be meeting with multiple teams, and you wouldn't hear Horford's name on Twitter at all because it would be a done deal.

this is a game. and everyone, esp agents, know the first 48 hours is where a majority of the crazy deals take place

I do, too. Agent is just trying to squeeze out the best deal.

wherever he goes he’s getting the 35%
only GSW can give him the 5th year though

that’s another 50MM, guaranteed

Right, but if we’ve seen anything this lately, money isn’t everything to these players. Kemba is throwing away 20 mil to go to Boston, AD threw away tons to go to LA, LeBron threw away millions to go to LA, Kyrie is throwing away millions to go to Brooklyn, etc...

on the other hand

Rumor is the dark horse team is Boston

Ainge is trying to orchestrate a 3 team sign and trade of Kyrie to Brooklyn, Rozier to Charlotte, and Kemba to Boston...

That would then allow him to sign Horford using his max space and still get Kemba

It will cost him an asset (likely the Memphis pick to Brooklyn), but it would be worth it
