You don't fire a first year head coach that has his team in second place in the conference because of defensive rankings this month
Hes been under the fire this whole season. Its rumored none of his players like him.
I know this is hard to understand since our expectations as pelicans fans are very different but some teams have very high standards. It’s championship or bust for them. No NBA team has won a championship with a defensive rating that low.

You fire him because the players don’t like him, not for on court performance

Can we request phone records between the league and the Hawks over the past two weeks?
What’s the odds on them getting #1 pick?

4.5% right now, per Tankathon.
The Three Stooges (Pistons, Spurs, Wizards) have 14% odds each and I don’t see anyone passing those three anytime soon.

The Pistons and Bulls have been in discussions on a Zach LaVine trade, per @JLEdwardsIII (theathletic.com/5225829/2024/0…).
Chicago is “locked in” on a package that would include Bojan Bogdanovic and one of their core young players.
Detroit has no interest including Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson or Jalen Duren in the deal.
Oh Lavine is going to be pouting big time

If you’re the pistons- why would you want to do this????
There is no reason to get a vet score first guard on a bad contract if you’re a bad young team.

The problem is Detroit is not trying to lose, they still want to try to win this year, which is stupid lol

Yeah it makes absolutely no sense.

Nobody wants Lavine, hell he's Klutch and the Lakers arent even making a play for him. They want Dejounte

The losing wasn't planned so it's embarrassing to the ownership/front office
If Lavine doesn't cost much of anything I guess there's not much harm done, although I can't imagine he'll be happy to play in Detroit lol

Let's not pretend like Detroit is going to win very many games even with LaVine. They have cultural issues right now and it's not something that can or will be fixed this year.

Hes going to cost you a majority of your salary cap. Its silly to do for so many reasons if you’re the Pistons.

Who is Detroit attracting and using that capspace on? Let's be real. Capspace does nothing for them.

I'm not pretending anything, trading for Lavine would be stupid.
I'm just explaining why they're looking into it. They want to compete, or at least not be a laughingstock. If not Lavine this year, I bet they sign someone pretty big in the offseason.

Paying Lavine 200 million to stunt the development of Cade, Ivey, and Thompson would be monumentally stupid. But it's still a much better decision than paying Monty Williams 78 million to coach the team. The owner seems set on paying the most money possible to have the biggest failure possible, so this may be the perfect move.

Several uses for the cap. For instance you can absorb salaries and get draft picks in return (if Im detroit I better ask for a first to take Lavine); Bruce Brown went to Indiana because they threw loads of money at him. Look at Houston- they signed Van Fleet, and Brooks mainly because of cap space. I wouldn’t dismiss capspace if you’re a young rebuilding team- its a huge asset.

I see how they can make the trade work but I’m stumped as to WHY they would make the trade.
Sending out Bogdanovich and some of Wiseman, Burks, Joe Harris, etc, makes it work cash wise but not enough to justify the long term cash on Lavine.
Chicago is capable of shipping out their own 2024 pick or the Portland 2024 pick lottery protected until 2028.
They can’t really send out anything besides those because they convey a pick to San Antonio with protections starting in 2025 through 2027. Any pick of their own past that would be no sooner than 2029 as a result and they don’t have many 2nds either.

He's just not a winning basketball player.

What is absorbing salaries going to do for them at this point? Nothing. They want and need talent to start winning. Houston was in much better shape than Detroit when they went and overpaid for their acquisitions this offseason. Detroit doesn't have a Udoka to attract players either and a 10 win ball club ain't going to look good to free agents. Even then, Houston is still an under .500 ball club with all their splash signings.
There's no good path for Detroit. They just decided this is the path they'd rather take to add talent.

What can we nickname that team? Monty Williams’ Flailing Circus?
