I was absolutely thrilled by what I saw from NAW last night. He is electric with the ball in his hands. Even with him going 1 for 10, the team was +6 with him on the floor, because he makes the offense so fluid.

He came into his first NBA game with zero fear and did exactly what he did in the preseason -- take over the game. His shot wasn't falling last night, and that'll happen to even the best shooters, but we saw enough in the summer league and preseason to know that his 3-pt % is going to be good.

NAW got 2 steals and 4 rebounds yesterday in just 11 minutes, and I think that his length at 6'5" has really been overlooked in terms of the overall benefit to the team when he's out there.

I now firmly believe that NAW is going to displace Ball as the starting PG by the end of the year (and I think that Ball is good!), and that, in another year, he'll be talked about in the same league as Lillard, Curry, Harden, Paul, and Irving -- one of the NBA's elite point guards.

I'm putting this down as a marker.

If this kid had been drafted in the top 5, everyone would see it, but people are still discounting him based on where he was picked. I'm not, because I'm going to believe my eyes.

After the draft, we talked about how the team eventually gets to the place where it can be a title contender, and we looked at all the future picks that we have and talked about how we could trade some of them to get another star to go with Zion.

What we didn't consider that we might have already drafted our second star. Don't forget that the Warriors became a dynasty because they drafted Steph, Klay, and Draymond. If you've got a smart front office, you don't have to trade to acquire talent. We drafted our own trio this year, sons, and we still have the poker chips to get more, and the future is glorious.

If he didn’t go 1/10 last night everyone would be saying it

Pump the brakes buddy.

I am confident NAW will be a good player. But, don't expect him to be starting by years end. Just my opinion.

I mean yeah, but he did. You can't call any player that goes 1/10 "amazing".

That being said, those shots will eventually fall for him. He's going to be good. Love his flow, love his aggression.

A surprising NAW stat I stumbled upon, his per 36 minute rebounds from last night were 12, the same as Favors and Kenrich.

Yea you might want to mark this and make sure you delete it.

Last night didnt downgrade my confidence in NAW, but it certainly didnt make me go, wow, by next year he'll be in the same league as the greatest shooter in nba history.

If you want me to get more specific, I'll say that after next season, he'll be widely regarded as a top-5 PG in the league. That was the comparison that I was trying to make by listing Lillard, Curry, Harden, Paul, and Irving.

And you came to this conclusion based on what you saw last night?

Shots will fall like you said. They weren’t bad shots, they just didn’t go in. If he took a bunch of bad shots I’d pump the brakes

Amazing in that he was willing to toss anything at any time in the general direction of the basket?

That didn't happen. He took good shots, the same kind of shots that he hit 47% from 3 in the preseason. He just had a bad night shooting, which was bound to happen to him eventually.

What was amazing was that, even with a horrible shooting night when he went 1 for 10, the team was better with him on the floor that without him. The measure of a great player is whether he can help the team even when his shot isn't falling.

[Edit:] cgrand linked in another thread that, in addition to his two assists, he had four more "near-assists" when teammates probably should've converted but didn't. Think about it this way … if two more of those four had been converted and he had played 30 minutes, he'd have been on pace to have a double-double the hard way with assists and rebounds.

I agree that his shot selection was not terrible. It was his first NBA game, in front of a bunch of family and friends, and on national TV. I’m sure he was unbelievably nervous.

He wasn’t good at all.

The +/- infatuation on this board is weird.

Guy is one of 10 players on the court at that time. You can have no impact of a negative impact & be +6 depending on the 9 other variables.

I’m not worried about him. He was in his hometown last night and was pressing.

Yeah, +/- could be misleading for someone who just sits in the corner while others shoot. But for a ball-dominant PG? He's the guy who runs the offense and makes it go. +/- is not a bogus stat for him.

Set up teammates for six shots (only two of which were converted and thus gave him assists) and also get two steals and four rebounds.
