I'm not counting the chickens, but signs are pointing to this afternoon/tonight as the night. If it doesn't happen soon, it won't happen this season.
But its looking likely.
Time for a new beginning in Hornets basketball.
HAWNETS HERE DEY COME

I hope they can come to an agreement. NBA does fill a void within that March - June period sports wise for most. I actually watch it regularly starting in Dec or Jan though.

I think they get a deal done and end up starting the season a week before Christmas. Really looking forward to getting a deal done then an owner will emerge by the end of the season for sure. If a deal is done I think it will only take a couple months to get the owner.

I probably spoke too soon..again.
A few people out there are now very pessimistic.

No one knows anything other than they're still meeting. The only guys that have consistently broken news on the CBA stuff are Ken Berger, Woj, Howard Beck, and Chris Broussard. Everyone else seems to be repeating what they said and they haven't said anything on today's meetings that I've seen.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Labor meeting has been on complete lockdown with so-called 5 PM deadline looming. Small group, so easier to keep information within room. about 48 minutes ago
Although I honestly don't know what tweaks could be made. Reducing the increase in tax penalties is about it. If they give in on the Carmelo Rule and S&T then nothing really changes and the small market teams are still farm systems for the large markets.

And now the negativity is starting to come out. Who were you seeing it from?

[Tommy Dee] Tommy Dee: Spoke to my source at CAA. Optimistic of a deal getting done? Response> "No chance. More of the same." about 15 minutes ago
Tommy Dee: players are speaking to their agents throughout this discussion BTW. about 14 minutes ago

Ken Berger: As you can tell by reading my contribution to the @Royce Young buzz, I'm not feeling a deal today at all. 4 minutes ago

I read the same tweets.
Wilbon seems to think a deal is getting done.
Who knows.

They ordered dinner in. That can't be a bad thing.
Unless the players want 52% of the fortune cookies.

I have a feeling that a deal gets done very soon. Stephan A Smith seemed to think so and the fact that they've agreed to the 50-50 and just wanna iron out the systematic details is a very good thing. It should be a Merry Christmas with some NBA basketball my boys.

They met for like 10 hours yesterday.
Word was this morning that very little progress was made but at least they are still talking.
I'm not that optimistic anymore.

I really don't know how you satisfy both parties on the system issues, someone has to lose and I think the owners will require more money for them to give in much on the system changes.
quote:
What stands in the way comes down to this — the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA title last season with the third highest payroll in the league, and the Lakers the two titles before that with payroll at the top of the league. Small market owners see that, see what LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony did — leaving smaller markets to play in bigger ones with more stars — and freaked out.
Small market owners want to tie the hands of big market owners to just spend. The players want those big market owners to have the means to spend if they want.
Multiple reports say basically that is where we are stuck.

The players argument against the system changes are an argument against competetive balance and small market teams. Given the function of the BRI split, the players will not make more money, just be able to continue gaming the system and getting paid the same by contenders.
It also screws some of the lower tier players to let tax teams drive up the market price for aging veterans who don't deserve it. This leaves less of the BRI split for the players who need the money more. Solid union behavior.

Multiple lesser known journalists are saying it is a done deal now.
We'll see if they are full of shite. Waiting for a reputable source to confirm.
EDIT: Turns out it was some guy joking around based on the Checketts sound bite from earlier today saying it was over. Nothing to see here.

Don't think its a done deal at all because Hunter is saying that Stern told them they would be announcing the cancellation of all games for December this evening. Stern is denying he said that but you can write it in ink that December is cancelled he just wants to make the Union look stupid again by letting make another misguided PR blunder to the public.

if this is true, then the owners are split and a deal really can't be done
