Danny Ainge on @Toucherandrich said he reached out to Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to discuss their names being in trade rumors. Wanted to be honest with them about the “business side” of basketball and all the noise of trade season.

To boost Boston's offer, the Pels would say: Look, you gotta give us enough to not even care if the Knicks got the #1 pick. Otherwise, there is no reason for us to agree in principle today.

That is leverage the Pels could have no that they might not have in June. If Knicks get the 4th pick, what is the offer that Boston is scared they can't beat? You need to make them imagine they are competing against KP, Knox, and the 1st - and make them beat that now. Thats how you maximize leverage

NYK gets the 1st. Do we now have leverage to re-negotiate?

I guess what they're working out is the renegotiation in advance. If the Knicks get the #1 you also have to give us another pick?

Especially if the plan is to make related deals like Crewz detailed with Rozier and a 1st for a big meaning you trade Niko for a 1st then I guess what they are doing is making an ironclad deal that no matter what happens the trade is going through. I definitely don't want to see AD play another game, too much injury risk.

Thanks for the info.

Surprised they dislike Randall so much. I think he’s a great bench guy, especially considering how damn soft Davis is at taking over a game sometimes. Same issue with Reke, somebody’s gotta drive the bus, but we have a bunch of polite guys who don’t want to push the ball.

I think the pels likely think he's leaving anyway afyer this season so something is better than nothing

We agree. NYK doesn't get the #1. Do they now have leverage?

Maybe we need to agree to 2 deals.

I get this. That said, if I'm either team I honor any deal negotiated now barring something unforeseen happening.

The other 28 teams are watching. Relationships are important.

Yes, if you make a deal, you can't go back. Even if NY gets the 1st pick. Heck, even if Philly gets the 1st pick via Sacto and offers Zion and Ben

You just can't do it. And I tell Boston that -- I say that we are locking ourselves into this, so you have to pay a monster premium. It would take Brown, Smart, Tatum, and 3 or more firsts from what I hear. I have no idea if Danny is that bold.

That’s true. I always had a hope he would stay around and be our Andre Iguodala.

Nah - they could keep Randle long term if they wanted. But I can't say in words how much the coaching staff dislikes his game. Randle could come to the team right now and say, "I will sign for 4 years on a discount" and the Pels would say no before he even finished his sentence.

I would hope we could get something for taking on a bad contract from Washington or Charlotte. That’s where Randle and/or Wesley need to go.

I'd rather get away from bad contracts. This franchise has been trying to climb out from under bad contracts since the Tyreke trade.

I would LOVE that deal. The ultimate deal to me is Tatum, Brown, Smart, MEM #1, SAC #1 and a future #1 (maybe Boston's own in 2020 or 2021).

That's a question that they may have an answer to. Now we just need someone to invent truth serum and kidnap the front office.

What's the point of building the warchest he's built only to not use it on every major star that has moved in the last 2 years? I doubt his seat gets hot if he misses out on AD, but at some point not making a move with all of those assets has to cause him some level of consequences.

Didn't they know his game before he became a Pel?

Personally I see some significant downside in this for Boston.

What happens if the actual parameters leak out during the season?

Boston is looking at a playoff run, and how would Tatum, Brown, and/or Smart feel about playing their hardest for a team they aren't going to be on next year?

Obviously Boston could keep their side on lock, but if I'm them, I'm very worried about leaks from the Pels side, particularly since Demps will likely be fired soon.

Would love to get both but for some reason I just can’t see Ainge giving up Tatum, Smart, Brown and the 1st’s. Who knows though?

Yes, a 20 year old #1 overall pick last season with 3.5 more years of team control has more value than a soon to be 28 year old streaky shooting PF that's likely to demand more money than hes actually worth in the offseason..

I love Niko and think he could be a good guy to help us through the rebuild, but if I can flip him for Fultz I do it every single day of the week.. You have to think Fultz's shot comes back, and worst case if it doesnt cone right away he is still a good facilitator for your team

It's the leagues own fault this environment exists. They can go f themselves.
