His shooting should translate immediately- he shot the crap out of the ball on high volume and high difficulty in college. But given his slight frame it will be tough for him to become a locked in NBA starter because of defensive concerns.

I don't really like the pick because I think it's a bit short sighted, but he will help us next season. Hope we have better health and can see what this team is truly made of.

It's the 14th pick. Hardly anything there is a sure thing, but Hawkins is a very safe pick and provides a skillset that this team severely lacks. Perimeter shooters who can get their shot off at all times while on the move are a huge asset to have in the NBA.

Yeah I don’t understand the melt over adding a Curry level shooter. It’s ridiculous

Trey was a 17th pick and he turned out OK. The NBA is all about spacing and shooting. We got the literal embodiment of that in Hawkins.

I agree with this statement, but I would have preferred to draft Bufkin or Jalen Hood-Schifino as a potential CJ replacement in a year or two. Maybe they are more confident in Dyson than I am.

I hope Hawkins makes me look like an idiot

We do need another shooter off the bench. He doesn’t have to start nor are looking for him to be an all star. I like the pick for what it is.

I don't make projections and predictions very often because it's just hard to do. But one thing that never seems to fail, when players show you NBA skills against NBA players early, that means something. Mark my words, Dyson is going to at least become what Lonzo became pre career ending injury, but I'd wager he will end up even better.

They wanted more than just a guy that can shoot. They wanted a guy that can give you true shooting gravity. A lot of guys left on the board aren't guys where defenses will fear enough to stop walling off the paint and stop clogging the lanes in mid range.

Hawkins ability should break those walls and force teams to stay honest.

I definitely believe in the defense and rebounding. If he becomes even an average offensive player he'll be very valuable

We have a good variety of shooters on the roster.

Guys like Herb and Dyson need to excel in their passing/ spacing. Both are already showing great potential. If those 2 can put up 10/7/7 8/6/6 type stats lines while playing lockdown defense then we are in great shape.

We are missing 3 components:

(1) rim protector/ rebounder.

(1) vet PG/ facilitator (only because it means CJ is never PG) (we don’t really “need” one).

(1) 3&D SF/SG hybrid. Or either one

I love the pick - young Hawkins was the 7th best player in the draft according to my proprietary RMS rating system.

He only won the NCAA championship last season at UConn.

His 109 three-pointers made this season is the second highest in UConn history, behind only Ray Allen's 115 in 1995-96.

In the six games of the NCAA Tournament, Hawkins averaged 16.3 ppg, 3.2 rebounds, shot .435 overall, .500 from three-point range, and .920 from the foul line.

I just want someone to describe to me how he gets significant minutes. I don't see him getting top 8mpg, maybe not even top 10. That's difficult when you take someone in the lottery, even if it is late lottery.

What would be some rotations that he would play, like with who? IMO, you can only play him alongside one of our wings at a time, maybe two in certain situations. Does he even get 15mpg? Is that enough?

Trey got 864 total minutes his rookie year. Jose got 834. Dyson got 1024 last year. Basically 50-60 games averaging around 15-18 MPG.

There was a lot more opportunity for those 3 though. It's probably going to be hard and may only happen because of injury. But with this team we know injuries will happen.

It's simple. When we are in need of spacing or shooting, he probably gets priority over the defensive guys along with with Trey.

When we are in need of defense, Herb, Dyson, and Jose will probably receive those additional minutes.

Probably going to be matchup based.

Hawkins is instant offense. Don't think you need him to play consistently for him to be effective. I think this kid will be a per minute shooter/scorer who can put up points quickly.

He'll be in the game when teams sag off to wall of Z and/or BI.
