And Scoot
Scoot right now is the equivalent of FVV to me until he proves something in this league. He’s an unproven draft pick.

And Keep Herb And Pay Trey
I didn’t realize we don’t have their bird rights and therefore can’t pay them.
Oh wait, we do? And we can? And we don’t have to give up 5 1st round picks to do it? Amazing

quote:Who gives a damn what some media person comped him to? Who was Oden comped to? Some said Marvin Bagley was the next Chris Bosh. Markell Fultz? Josh Jackson? Ben Simmons? Jahlil Okafor? The point being, Scoot is not a guaranteed star. BI is already proven.
Oh wait I get Scoot Henderson too?? Who's comp is a prime Westbrook? SHIIIII

When you dont have a place on the roster to put them they kinda are.
Also, you run into this problem of having too many projects. At some point you gonna push your chips in.
Unless you want to eject Naji and a few others. (Which you could in theory)

What good does this do? Zero chance we get a max free agent, and you traded all the valuable 1sts, so we can't trade for 1 either.
We still have all these:

Or, you'd have essentially trade the same assets you obtained for a max, which puts you right back where we were with BI.
But with everything I just laid out, and the ability to navigate your way out of CJ's contract at the end.
No one said you had to use the Max slot in 2024. Its the ability to have it thats nice.

1) You have to pay BI
2) The team has rarely if EVER gone over the Tax.
3) You have to pay Trey
4) You have to pay Herb

There's this thing called a Salary Cap. Might want to recheck the Pelicans and get back with me.

Salary cap won't be relevant in extending Herb or Trey.
Tax line will be.

Because I believe long term
Scoot/Sharpe/Trey is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BI/CJ/Herb
1) My core doesnt occupy the same airspace
2) My core has elite first step and can get to the basket
3) Sharpe and Trey I trust to become even more effective shooters
4) Scoot can get Zion the ball (I know this for sure)
Short term the current group will be better no doubt. But they havent demonstrated at anytime that they can keep it together for an NBA season and thats something quite frankly you cannot deny or claim otherwise.

Yes Tax Shel.
We wont be paying Lux Tax.

quote:Nothing at all is guaranteed with Sharpe or Scoot yet. They definitely have the skills. Not sure why you have Scoot/Sharpe/Trey so much better than BI/CJ/Herb. That seems to be cherry picking. Where is Zion with either? Why is Trey not with BI? CJ is not part of the long term future either way.

Very fair
quote:
Where is Zion with either?
He is with both which in comp makes that a null. I think we can both agree he elevates both comps.
quote:
Why is Trey not with BI?
Because over the course of the last two years (we can throw away his rookie year if you want) we have chosen to Start Herb over Trey and I need to honestly check the minute count of how much time Trey has played with BI to give honest assestment.
quote:Agreed. Problem is his contract is an albatross in a sort of way currently.
CJ is not part of the long term future either way.

Updated Trade Because Yall loved it the first time AND I learned a lil more about our pick situation.

I still don’t understand the Pacers part and your thinking that Simons is a negative contract that you need to pay someone to take, someone will pay you to take Simons, and they will pay 1-2 1st rounders to do it.
Eta: Not to mention you’re doing all this ASSUMING that Charlotte doesn’t take Scoot at #2 which is a very good possibility.

I never said it was a negative contract, you need his contract value to get the expiring Buddy and Turner.
And yes everything is always understood as an assumption. This whole trade is under the assumption that it could be executed.

In theory you can just ask for this and see if they bite.

Posted on 6/2/23 at 8:46 pm to 50_Tiger
Still don't like it, but closer to more realistic for Pels. Still think the Pacers get way too much.

Here:
Trade is effectively 3 parts into one:
JV and 14 for Myles Turner
BI for Sharpe Scoot Simons
Simons for #7

If Portland is trading 3 they want to win now. They’d probably require BI + Herb in addition to the picks.

quote:probably have the pacers give up a player to the blazers then in this trade scenario. Maybe buddy goes to Portland if the money works or Jalen smith.

Or you can give up Herb like you said and if we were to get #7 pick I’d go for a guy Hendricks. This is a good draft there’s a good amount of guys I like in the lottery range and think can have important roles on teams.
Supposedly next years draft is not gonna be that good unless guys take big step on college.
