He is a shooter but it is position and age that concern me. Griff says this is Jrue's team and he signs JJ.

Unmentioned upside to signing JJ.

JJ is the guy that helped Austin Rivers fix his shot. Which went from a guy hitting 30ish percent on 2 wide open shots a game to hitting 38% on high volume, often contested shots, his last year with the Clippers.

Ingram and Ball could use patient veterans like that have proven results in helping teammates with their shooting weaknesses.

surely you didn't expect us to not have a solid backup. JJ is probably well aware he will be coming off the bench.

Plus, Jrue and JJ on the court when Lonzo is taking a break could be an interesting look.

JJ signed a 2 year deal worth $13 mil. Jrue has 3 years left & is currently the highest paid player on the team

more tenure, more years, more money this is still very much Jrue's team

@SynergySST

JJ Redick scored 435 points off of hand off actions last season, comfortably the most in modern NBA history and likely the all-time single season record. The blueprint for how teams use elite shooters continues to evolve

This deal is insane. I’m dumbfounded. We didn’t have to overpay or give extra years on a deal. What is going on?!

An undervalued part of Redick’s game goes beyond the shooting. He’s one of the more efficient pick-and-roll options in the NBA. Teams either make the mistake of giving him too much room coming off the screen, they overplay it allowing him to drive, or they swarm him and he gives a pass to the screener. It was deadly with Joel Embiid as the big. It can be just as deadly with Zion barreling his way into a viral moment at the rim. A brilliant deal for the Pelicans without committing more than two years.
