Highly Recommended Watch (15 min)

This video is 2 years old but it's a great piece about JJ, his family, his though process and motivations. If you weren't already excited frick you but this will do it.

There is one part in particular that stands out.. When asked if he still talks to Coach K, JJ says (paraphrasing) Yea, he's great, I talk to him often. I talked to him yesterday, he texted me to tell me he loved me.

13 years later and Coach K still sends JJ a text on a random day to tell him he loves him. Amazing.

ETA: I'm gushing over this video. The depth involved in his decision and the meaning behind his decisions shows you truly the culture Griff is building already. JJ talks about wanting joy when playing etc...

We turned from thug K U to Duke U. I’d say we upgraded. I loved JJ at Duke.

Hopefully this process goes better.

We’ve had bad luck with guys from both Kentucky and Kansas, all of whom seem athletic as hell but dumb as stumps, like Terrence Jones.

I remember him crying when Garret Temple shut him down in the tourney. Was an awesome time to be an LSU fan. That said, glad his is on board as a pelican now.

Let’s go Duke South. Redick seems like a great role model for these young players. Would be awesome for him to stay and win a ring. New Orleans grows on people because you’re treated like family. Similar to Drew and Morestead. Hope they feel welcomed here.

Not even close to
The hate that another Dukie had to deal with. No one in any sport was hated as much as Christian Laettner.

To be truly hated you have to be really good. Allen wasn't, Laettner was. No question Laettner is the most hated college basketball player in the last 40 years.

Other factors played into that too.

I remember hating his arse because he got selected to the Dream Team in 1992 while Shaq didn’t.

While the Dream Team annihilated everyone they played, Shaq would have been a better selection. He was certainly a better pro player.

You can totally tell the dude is a snake. Idk, it blows my mind that people think he's the "good guy" of the NBA.

“A source close to the Sixers told me that JJ Redick was offered a deal to return to the team, but declined.”

Terrence Jones was actually good for us, didnt get pissy when we let him walk, played his heart out every night and probably deserved a long term contract from us. He was the epitome of a good, complimentary player on a bad team. He is not in that K U category.
