When we benched Jaxson against the Bucks, I thought that it might just be a matchup thing, and also because we were playing back-to-backs.

But we won. Even though we got very little out of Nico Melli, we were still better than with Hayes in there. Then, Hernangomez significantly outplayed Hayes against the Kings.

So, Willy is going to be the first big off the bench tonight. He definitely deserves it over Melli and Jaxson.

Should we send Jaxson to the G-League bubble? He needs to play if he's going to keep improving. I know that this board views Jaxson as a bust, but I always viewed him as a multi-year project. If he can learn to shoot, then look out. His defense will get better. But he needs to play.

Trade him while he has value

Just curious ... why do you not believe that he will improve?

I don't object to including him in a trade, but I don't see any reason to trade him right now, as I think that he's a developing asset that will be worth more in the future.

Maybe he’s getting benched because of a pending trade

I think Hayes has potential and will turn into a solid to very good player with the right grooming. He just isn’t ready to take that jump as a major/rotational contributor with our current roster.

Personally, I'm not giving up on him yet. I'd like him to get minutes over Herman Gomez simply bc Jax is a project that can be a part of the teans future. He's has to have minutes to get better. And whether any one wants to admit it or not, Jaxson has put in some quality minutes this year and showed glimpses that he can be a useful player deserving minutes.

How and what spot he was drafted at makes it hard for most fans to be patient. I think if he was the 14th pick, everyone would be fine. But trading back from 4 in what will probably go down as one of the greatest drafts of all time, is hard to take.

He was in foul trouble last game, that's why he was on the bench.

I mean, almost all of Jaxson's offensive value is in transition and as a roll man. And we no longer play Gentryball, and without Jrue Holliday, we no longer have an elite initiator of the P & R to get him the ball for dunks.

basketball IQ did not even move up a notch.

We seem to attract these straight up RAW, high ceiling low floor guys. There are more mature players who have played a few years in college, and are role players who know what they need to do. Taking the memphis approach when you have 2 potential superstars would have paid dividends sooner. The question is can we fill out the roster at some point

And he's going to stay there for awhile as long as Willy continues to play well.

You have the benefit of hindsight. Zion hadn’t played a game an BI was far from what he is today in terms of perception and a guy you’d build around.

Small market teams have to take more chances, I get going for high ceiling dudes.

Yeah, but bigs typically take longer and he's extra raw. I'm not saying trade him ASAP, but he needs to be part of whatever big deal they make.

He should practice shooting since his form looks decent. So much athleticism with barely any IQ.

Jaxson not getting any minutes in the 4th tonight and is barely visible on the bench is interesting.

A true fact: The #Pelicans are 2-0 in games this season where Jaxson Hayes didn’t get on the floor. They beat the Bucks and the Suns in those games and led by at least 28 in both.

Also is it me or he doesn’t look happy at all on the bench? Oh well, he probably gonna still post his fit on Instagram.

Hayes definitely doesn’t like the haters.

I loved the signing. Great get by the FO.

Backup bigs are undervalued, they can win or lose you games. A smart vet that can shoot and protect the rim.

This is similar to when Moore held our bench together. I miss Moore.

Hayes needs to go the G-League bubble and come back later.

I mean Griff said in the Kevin O’Connor piece they aren’t in the business of catering to anyone right now. I’m not sure that’s 100% true but it does feel like this move may be to send a message and pull back Jax and say, listen, you need to figure some shite out before you get back out there and you’re gonna have to earn it back.

...At least I hope.
