Attendance was fine, near full along the sidelines. Feels like it was hardly advertised around town at all. Very odd.

That was my problem from the second we signed him. I thought you could get 80-90 percent the player without committing the years and the 12-13 mil per. See how QPon comes back and decide what to do with that position next year.

But what's done is done and maybe he surprises. But I would have never bid that much for him. It was the only move of the offseason I didn't either like or love

Certainly some parallels to Asik. Some differences too.

Bar for Hill needs to be set around pre-Wiz Ariza. Play defense, offer lineup flexibility, and be a 4/5th option on offense. Is that worth $12M/annually?

Yeah, meh...

But i'd be happy if he was Ariza-like. Just don't think we can afford another starter/heavy minutes guy that struggles to hit double figures.

Yeah. If Hill/Asik are playing a lot together, things will get ugly.

I have some hope that we will see a good bit of Hill/Davis at the 4/5. Roll that pair with Holiday + some combo of Moore, HIeld, Galloway, Pondexter and it's at least an intriguing plan. Still questions about $$ and talent of course

I'm not sure asik is playable at all in any viable lineup with hill
if they roll out hill/Davis/asik as the starting front line they may as well spot the opponent a dozen

so to me it's either start jones/Davis/hill or bring hill off the bench and start asik. either way not really ideal to have 12MM players that we need minutes from that can't play together

You had me here.

That's more of an Asik problem to me. Hill, warts and all, can offer flexibility and bring value back. Think Aminu- 3 next to a stretchy 4/not Asik 5 or as a 4 next to Davis.

Again, is that value worth $12M annually? No clue. But, unlike Asik, there is at least a path forward with Hill that I can see.

right but if Davis isn't going to play 40 as the biggest dude on the floor somebody's got to soak up minutes and ajinca can't stay on the court. So when asik is in for that purpose hill most likely has to sit

it's a glitch in the system that other teams will exploit
lack of quality depth up front is a killer
maybe jones can play some 5?

ideally pondexter could play with Davis and hill but who knows when that will be. playing asik requires a wing that can shoot and qpon is all we've got

Bruce Bowen averaged about 9 ppg in SA. Battier was pretty similar in Houston and even less in Miami. But they were elite defenders. Hill can earn that money without gaudy numbers if he limits the best wing player night in and night out

If a guy would normally score 25 on 19 FGA's and you limit him to 20 on those same 19 or make him take 24 shots to get those same 25, that is far more valuable than being an average offensive player.

But he will have to be close to that level to earn his salary. Pulling for him to do it

I'll hold out claiming I have an informed opinion til at least some of the regular season but Hill is a bit of a flag from what I am reading.

12 million isn't what it used to be but we aren't exactly in a position to be striking out on long term contracts.

Bruce Bowen would be great. I guess my concern was people I have read criticizing his defense.

But that is a good point in another way. Expectations seemed to be for Hill to be the next Demarre Carroll. And maybe the coaching staff were never expectating that?

His interview on the black and blue report does kinda suggest that if you assume that.

Battier is a great, great call for a best case type comp.

Agree w/ everything else you said here too

Yup. They could only try to plug so many holes in one summer.

It's going to be a long year because they have one rotation level NBA big in Davis. Maybe Jones bounces back though....
