Is there still hope for Zion to be a "generational talent?"

Based on where we are now on a scale of Greg Oden to LeBron where is Zion likely to end up?

I'd be happy with him just fitting in well as another starter with this new youth movement on the team. Doesn't need to be the next LeBron.

Yes. No offseason for him. His season starts today and he comes back at 250-270. He actually improves his ppg from 27 to 30 thanks to more support on the team.

80 games out of 240 doesn’t really cut it, does it?

We can't overlook the fact that he obviously has gained weight since coming back from Nike. I don't think he will ever be what he was billed as and he will be fluctuating between fat and injured for the rest of his career.

I think it is also overlooked how young he is. On the Russillo pod AD talked about how it took him a few years in the league to mature and for it to click about taking care of his body. Also, It’s not like Zion doesn’t care. He has shown tons of emotion on the bench and when he was playing and that he wants to win games bad. He cares. I think it’s likely he will start focusing on his body as he gets older in this league.

Heard that same pod and its a version of what I've felt/been saying for a while.

The guy is 21, and by all accounts he is a mentally young 21, not a Cade Cunningham 21.

As AD said, guy was at his High School prom three years ago. Most of us weren't even graduated college by his age.

Like BI, talk to me when a guy is 25 and hasn't shown growth as a man and player. Then I'll talk about plateaus. But like BI, you simply can't write a person's career and narrative two years into a job where guys come in arguably way too young and raw anyways.

Honestly... we don't need a "generational talent" or "transcendent player" like Lebron. Someone with ridiculous expectations and a constant "where will he go next?" aura

We just need a damn good player -- like Joel Embiid. He missed a ton of time at the beginning of his career and he's now scoring champ and in the running for MVP

He doesn't even need to get down to Duke weight.. just get in game shape and by playoff time he'll look great

If Zion is 80% of Embiid we’re winning multiple titles lol. Dude is an MVP level player.

Embiid is 100% a generational talent not just a "good player"

Yes, I still think he gets past these injuries and the rest of his career is relatively clean.

Change of subject but just throwing it out there- while we are on the topic of generational talents, is Jabari Smith considered one? Hypothetically, if the Pels did get the #1 pick, do they sprint to the podium and take Smith, or should they consider moving back and still getting a very good player while picking up other assets?

No chance we move back if we get #1. We don’t need future assets at this point, we need to surround Zion and BI with as much cheap talent as possible. Getting a top 4 pick in this draft raises the ceiling of this team considerably over the next 3-5 years.

He already is a generational talent. The question is can he stay healthy

Almost triple the amount of games Joel Embiid played in that time span.

The guy I like to bring us that I feel is more relatable this our fan base is Jrue Holiday. People seem to forget how Jrue’s time here started. He missed 90 games his first two years here. But he matured, got past the injury stuff, and had a good career here.

There’s no reason Zion couldn’t do the same.

Zion was supposed to be the next Lebron.. Lebron was the next Jordan.. etc.

Joel Embiid is great but nobody has ever described him in that way

I would be thrilled if we get Embiid out of Zion.. I'm not concerned if we don't get a player billed as the next GOAT

True. Embiid was just described as the next Shaq or Ewing.

Ok.. If Zion can stay on the freakin court and average 25-10-6, he'd have better numbers than Barkley, Nowitzki, Webber, and Duncan

Maybe, maybe not. I lean the latter. Dude is constantly fat and out of shape and spent months away from the team for whatever reason and only came back when he was getting obliterated by the national media. Maybe it clicks for him and I hope it does, he’s a great player but I would be perfectly fine if the pelicans moved on from him and continued to build with the guys that bust their arse and wanna be here
