---I can't see the Pels letting a player so much like Herb get away if he's available with the 8th pick. We need help on D & Sochan looks like he could even guard quite a few 5s in addition to the smaller guys.

We should have plenty of 3-pt shooting next year with BI returning to his C&S 3-pt game since Zion will be available. Plus, Herb is gonna shoot at least 36/37% and worse case for Sochan, offensively, we let him play some 5 at times and stick him in the corner to only shoot the short C&S 3. He can hit that particular shot with enough efficiency to require an opposing 5 to come out and guard him. (Plus, let Herb teach him how to shoot free throws)

The city is not big enough for two herbs.

Sochan’s ball handling and passing ability don’t compare to what Herb demonstrated in college. Obviously Sochan is younger and could develop in those areas. But I don’t think their offensive games are all that similar at all

Never thought I'd be saying this after just one year but...Sochan is a "poor man's Herb", (AT AN 8 PICK !!) with extra height & weight so he can possibly guard a 5.

Put it in his contract...he's gotta choose only ONE hair color...or he goes to Birmingham.

Agreed. I was mainly talking about the defensive versitility that both players have in common. Would need to be creative to find a way to make Sochan useful on the offensive end, at least, at this point. Herb, on the other hand, is just scratching the surface on what his eventual offensive game will become. I still have no idea what Herb's offensive "ceiling" will be...but I look forward to finding out because it's gonna be a surprise to most folks.

The shot is the big question with Sochan. Though he did shoot just a hair under college average as a c&s at 36%, so I don’t think his path to being a league average catch and shoot guy is as difficult as the raw numbers make it out to be.

And I said it the other day and I’ll say it again, Sochan’s ceiling as a defender is higher than Herb’s, and I think VERY highly of Herb, so that’s saying something. There are things you can point out with Herb defensively that he needs to improve on, that Sochan will come into the league better at, while being 4 and a half years younger.

Yep...seemed to me Herb actually improved a bit the 2nd half of the season defensively. Hopefully, he'll continue to learn as he goes. Trying to imagine having both Herb and Sochan on the court at the same time. Sounds interesting, for sure.

It definitely does. If you look at some of Boston's best lineups they've played throughout the playoffs it's typically Tatum and Brown surrounded by three other guys who are a combination of can't shoot, so so shoot, or good shooter but don't take that many.

It's basically just two really good offensive players and three guys that are just dudes defensively and they build a wall and the defense is unbelievably good, and because of the old adage of good defense turns into offense the offense is actually really good as well because they're smart and they turn you over a ton.

and because you don't need a bunch of scorers on the floor anymore like this board thinks, two high level guys can do more than enough to get it done in the modern NBA, but that's a whole different argument...

It’s kind of a shame that we gotta keep drafting defensive prospects instead of shooters because Zion can’t live up to his college scouting report of being a transcendent defender because he’d rather be unique and be 310 pounds than be 265, still be unique enough, and possibly become the best player in nba history.

We don't need "scorers," but we absolutely need shooters to space the floor for our scorers. I think Sochan is a bit too redundant with Zion, Herb, and Murphy to reach for a guy who shot 29% from the shorter 3 point line.

We also don't need another top perimeter defender. Remember when Ingram went out for 10 or so games around the ASB and the defense went to hell? His activity and long arms really made a difference when you had Herb manning the point of attack. So all we really need are more long and active 2 way players. Pick the best one of those available at 8.
