If we hadn't traded Buddy for Boogie, I'd be mad about not getting Murray

Murray is going to be a stud. Buddy has been playing very well lately though.

That is just not true at all. There were exactly 2 Buddy skeptics here leading up to the draft. I know, I was one of them. The rest of the board was as fanatical Pro Buddy as I've ever seen this board united in being Pro anything ever here.

I was one of the skeptics not because I was a Murray fan, I just didn't think Buddy's ceiling was that high and wondered if you could get the same caliber player plus extra assets by trading back for someone like Valentine.

I'm not saying there were no Murray fans, they just couldn't get a word in edgewise with the very excited Buddy fans. So it is wrong to say everyone knew Murray would be better.

All of that being said, the problem probably wasn't lacking in scouting but the hot seat Demps is always on resulting in a timeline that wouldn't allow them to pick a less ready player with a higher ceiling.

Why is Murray so much better than Buddy?
They both have a 16 PER this year, Murray is averaging 3 more points a game, Buddy is shooting 43% from 3, Murray 38%, and both are around a 0 +/- on the season, which Murray has a huge advantage in b/c he doesn't play for the shitty kings.

yes i think Murray is better, but Buddy is still a good player. All you can ask for in the draft is to hope you don't get a bust, and Buddy isn't a bust.

I'm no Murray expert but if that's the consensus it's probably because Murray is starting for a playoff caliber team and Buddy is coming off the bench for a bad team. I don't know if that says more about Sacramento or Buddy, but either way it's not good for Buddy that he's in a situation where he's still only averaging 25 MPG in season 2.

The kings don't have anyone averaging more than 28 minutes a game. they aren't trying to win. They have scored over 100 points in 2 of their last 10 games, and have surpassed 105 only once in their last 20. Them and the Grizz are the only teams averaging under 100ppg.
it's difficult to say anything about anyone on that team with any confidence.

Murray's offensive game is much more refined than Buddy's and they are pretty much equally bad defensively.

I think the main thing is that people are expecting that Murray will develop more than Hield, because he's 4 years younger than him.

Right, but it's still doesn't seem like a good situation for Buddy. I'd have loved to find a way to make the Cousins trade and keep him. Moore has played better than expected to make up for that some, but just imagine Jrue/Buddy/Miller/AD/DC. Teams don't leave Jrue and Miller now, they probably wouldn't leave Buddy. Could you actually get AD/DC doing a 4/5 P&R vs. just 2 bigs with their defensive helpers out on the 3 point line?

Yep back when this draft was around I was screaming for us to pick Murray. His pro game potential was far and away better than buddy’s. Honestly would still rather have him and not boogie plus our first rounder.

Let's hope the guy who is searching for GMs on an online message board won't be the next owner of the Pelicans.

On Pelicansreport I'm pretty sure I went

1. Murray
2. Dunn
3. Buddy

Oh well, tis a moot point now! But it does raise the question of would we have traded Murray for Boogie and that is a very, very interesting topic for discussion.

My top 4 on draft night for Pels to draft was:
1. Jaylen Brown
2. Dunn
3. Marquese Criss
4. Murray

I’m going to warn you ahead of time you will get yelled at for “not watching the games and looking up stats” for comparing the two and making a logical argument.

I didn't mean that as that is the only thing you want out of it.
My point was we could have drafted Chriss, or a guy like Dante Exum, or Ben Mclemore, or Mudiay with a top 10 pick, and they are so terrible they aren't even a tradeable assett.

Buddy was good enough to trade for an All-Nba player.
Buddy will never be an allstar, but he'll play in the league for 10+ years. Sure you'd like to draft a star player at 6, but getting a serviceable player and trade asset isn't bad.

I guess my point was, it could have been worst.

I thought Murray was meh at first. He has turned into a damn good player this season and I like his game a lot. I was wrong about him for sure.

You also need to factor in that in 3 years Murray will be the same age Buddy is now
