Along with AD - does that give us enough money to go after a Kemba or Tobias Harris? I can't quite understand who can take on more salary/etc and where our numbers have to be to be able to offer max.

Post draft we'll still have a weakness and it will very likely be shooting.

Either of these guys would be

Yes, but I don’t think we’ll be chasing near max (Nola max) guys this offseason.

yeah Solo is an expiring next year so we can hopefully get some value for that. trading for assets is how we build.

signing guys gets us...Solo

If we don’t get Ja, Kemba would be fun.

We may be able to get value for Solo’s expiring but it wouldn’t be right now.

It would be during the season when a team decides to dump a long term deal that is no longer in their future.

Yep. A lot of teams have set themselves up with a lot of cap space this coming season anyway. Probably would have been more valuable if he was expiring last season.

I reckon we could get something good from Miami though. They are capped to hell on big, long term contracts and in repeater tax territory.

If you can dump Moore for free and attach 2nds to Hill, you can get to

Jrue, Frank, K Will, AD, Zion, Wood, and Okafor for 69 million

That gives you 40 mil in cap room. Subtract cap holds and you can get a max guy in there as long as he is not a 10+ year guy

So, yes you could get a max guy. And you pursue one and if he agrees, you do what it takes to offload Solo and Moore. You don't have to do that first.

But personally, I'd rather go smaller. I LOVE Brogdon with Jrue-AD-Zion. Then, just go get a bunch of shooters with the rest of the money. Ellington, Ennis, Dudley for shooting and leadership, Satoransky to help us run and shoot, etc. Just keep adding shooters around that core 4

Thinking of PG stop gaps that can shoot, there aren't many available.

If we can't get our hands on Morant/Garland/White - I wonder if they run committee again and get a guy like Teague to eat minutes and be able to hit open shots.

I wanted Brogdon even before Zion, even more so now..

He can shoot, defend, and pass..

He also has the length to play 1-3, and Milwaukee may not have a choice but to let him walk with all the deals they have coming due

I think that's certainly 1a. Do you think 4/60m get's matched?

Brogdon/Smart/Frank
Jrue/Brown
Tatum/Kenrich
Zion/Wood
R. Williams/Okafor

+ 3 firsts this year
+ Unprotected Memphis in 2021 (the year after Conley is gone)

There isn't a wasted dollar on this team. Lots of low risk high reward guys, flexibility to work in a young guy at the reserve 2 if brown asks too much. Shooting at the 1 and 3 - hellacious defenders 1-4

Tatum doesn't get paid until Jrue is an expiring (player option). fricking this.

How is this NOT the best case scenario. This team is competing year 1.

I think you gotta give Brogdon slightly more than Bledsoe just got to keep Milwaukee from matching. Bledsoe wouldn't be happy if Brogdon got more and they gotta give Middleton a max

I think you make that offer, Milwaukee gets wind of it and instead of it being official offer sheet, Milwaukee just signs and trades Brogdon for E. Moore so they get a shooter out of it instead of nothing.

Its not the best case because, even though it is so tempting to put together a nice, full roster on paper and all that depth is nice in the regular season -- in the playoffs, it comes down to your top 7. And more than that, comes down to your stars.

Warriors have no bench, no depth, and will still win the title. Rockets are the 2nd best team in the West and they filled out their roster with in season minimum guys and guys they acquired in trades with 2nd round picks

You get the top of your roster as good as possible and you can figure out the rest if you have a good FO

I think the goal is to try to match GS but to shoot for being a better Portland. Perennial playoffs in a small market and stars that soak it up.

Portland is running 9 deep and has the ability to take it 6 games. IMO the play is to plan for the GSW decline, which should line up nicely with our rise. As a bonus, you'll have a 36 year old CP getting 40 million in Houston.

In my perfect scenario, AD and KD shift east as does the power (MIL, NYK, PHI, etc). LA continues to be a mess. Leaves the door open for a really good regular season team to get home court and play their asses off in a conference with less star power.

My point is you can get to 9 deep.

It is 1000x easier to find the 5-10 guys in your rotation than to get #1 or #2

Is it a lock to happen as soon as next year? No. But you will get those guys eventually. Look at Milwaukee. They get Lopez and Connaughton on cheap deals, Illysova on a medium deal. Does value trades for Bledsoe and Mirotic.

That is not the hard part. If you have AD-Jrue-Zion locked in, you will get the rotation players. Don't be in a rush to trade your star for a bunch of them

If we can keep AD, we will be the toughest opponent for gsw. Especially if they lose KD. One of AD or Zion would have a mismatch every possession. They do not have 2 players on that squad that can each lock one of them down. On defense, we have players who can match up with them. I can see us being gsw kryptonite, baring how things play out.

Whatever we get back for AD, we HAVE to get back at least 85% of his cap space in the trade. That's just how the league works. And b/c we will probably prefer young (cheaper) players we will have to get several back.

I just don't see us being able to unload Solo and his 12 mil as well in the AD deal. If we are going to move him it'll be closer to the trade deadline since several teams will be looking to take on big expiring contracts when they're selling their decent pieces off.
