Had Clarke in my top 5 for the draft. Never going to be a star but he’s a high quality role player. He’d stay as a bench guy here. Not big enough to start at Center, and won’t start over Zion at the 4 obviously

We dumped Hill in the trade which allowed us to pick up Redick/Favors..
I don't think in any way they will regret it

Question can't be answered for another few years. Despite the fact that 90% of this forum were hyping Hayes and NAW based on their summer league performances. Neither of them are sure things at this point.
well said.
its a shame because any one of the half dozen who were available at 4 and now are obvious to all could have become a solid contributor in the pels 2021 playoff run.
imho pels mgmt went for 5 run home run with hayes and so far got a loud foul ball down the line for strike one. they get at bats in 2021 and 2022 though.
herro is so damn slick on offense.
opposite of hayes.
herro had an injury already.
if he holds up he is an all star version of jj.

Knowing what we know we would’ve still made the trade and drafted herro and Clarke both
Posted on 4/20/20 at 8:39 am to CP3forMVP
Keep the trade but draft Tyler Herro and Brandon Clarke instead.

Disagree. I still like Hayes and NAW better in the long run. Hayes is going to be a much more impactful player with some development. NAW’s skillset is there and is up there with Herro. Once he’s puts it together, he’s going to be better than Herro due to his defensive potential.
I can care less how well both Herro and Clarke plays this year, I wouldn’t trade either guy for some short term success.

a man of conviction.
we will revisit in 3 full seasons. naw looks more likely to figure it out.
hayes is just an athlete right now. needs a ton of work and coaching.
thus far both herro and clarke are likely first team all rookie. zion, morant, nunn. rookie first team.
clarke's almost at his peak from day1.

If hayes can be a solid pick and pop player (think Ibaka) that could add a very scary dimension to our offense
He has a shot but pick and pop ain’t his game.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Hill’s contract was up after this year anyway, and may have had value at the trade deadline. Favors may also be gone after this year as he is a fa. And he missed quite a few games on top of working himself into shape at the beginning of the year. Think we had room to sign Reddick out right. But likely not both until Hill was traded. Either way neither would be apart of the team in 2-3 years anyway.
So if NAW doesn’t pan out and Hayes doesn’t develop as expected, and White goes on to be come an all star or the 3rd best player in the draft which is entirely possible, they won’t regret it because we got a half season out of Favors to show for it???

That’s a lot of ifs, and it presumes we would’ve selected White at 4 which was unlikely.

Agreed, we will see how this plays out and will have a better idea three years from now.
And as for Hill, I meant his contract being used as a catalyst in a trade since it was expiring, not the player. And it was used in that capacity by the Grizz. It wasn’t a negative asset like it was when the ink dried and years later.

LOL
memphis got
oft-injured justise winslow for hill.
I watched a few memphis games. hill played well enough that you didnt want to slap him which i usually did when he was a pel.
i am puzzled by that.
hill's value: Winslow was said to be nearing readiness to play (repeated back injury) but never stepped on the court.

I think the trade was more about the Heat getting Iggy. Hill had little value on the court but like I said his contract had value to make numbers work in a trade and it was precisely used for that reason like I said.
Everyone acting like it was a big deal getting off that contract when in reality it wasn’t. It would have been if it was last year or the year before when it was a negative asset.

You Are acting like Hayes didn’t already overachieve as a 19 year old. We know he is still developing, but definitely adds value. I see his game taking a huge step next season.
The facilitation of a trade for Favors was a good move as Favors wanted to be here. The only problem is we now see that he is not necessarily the best fit for Zion.

I think he becomes more polished and a better decision maker. He had times where he went hard to the rim and got the foul which was great. I think with more experience he is getting the and1.
He was so good just on pure athleticism and instinct. I think he learns more about the NBA and gets some more coaching and takes the next step with some more experienced decision making and techniques. I believe the team culture and the other young guys around him will push the improvement too.
- improves decision making on defensive side of the ball
- more finishes with contact
- expands the offensive game (focuses more on adding select jumpers for floor spacing)

reasonable expectations.
he could be working on a shot or two right now.
im afraid the work on decision making on defense will not be happening until erie.
there's no sign of team practices any time soon.
naw and hayes development is going suffer due to the cv19. zion too.
