That "new" link may be on nola.com but it's sourced from the AP, not even a specific writer, so I have questions about it's accuracy and freshness. I don't recall ever seeing the AP scooping Woj or any of the other NBA news breakers on a story they had been following.

$5m for a center with a pulse is just about as cheap as you can go. We aren't getting anyone worth a shite for $1 or 2m a year.

Better than whats currently on the roster, or available in FA? Yes
Hes a big body, who can rebound and play defense... and hes only 26, so theres room for improvement. Id for sure take him over a bag of peanuts and a temporarily Jason Smith.
he's only 24. 7 feet, 255 lbs, solid shot blocker, still with a lot of upside...I wasn't a huge fan of Lopez in the past, but he is exactly what we need with a reasonable contract.
Hakim Warrick will now be the oldest player on our team at 30....don't know how much he will play, but could provide a nice scoring punch off the bench, especially if someone gets injured. Like someone said earlier--a poor man's Carl Landry

I wouldn't be surprised if we buy Warrick out. We have 3 guys who are natural 4's and last year, when we were in a pinch, I actually saw Aminu playing center.

me neither...but if we don't, that's some nice depth

And I really did think that Miller couldn't be traded back to the original team so soon.
That's part of why I think that new AP report is questionable.
quote:
A team cannot reacquire a player they traded away during that season (a season being July 1 - June 30). If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first. However, if a team trades a player's draft rights, they can reacquire the player during the same season.

I think the deal will end up looking like:
Lopez and Warrick to NO
Miller, Johnson and 1st(Min) to Phoenix
Dyson and 2nds(NO) to Minnesota

I'm so confused. Is this deal done or not? Media outlets acting like it is:

NEW ORLEANS -- The Hornets got their big man in a three-team deal with the Phoenix Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves.
7-footer Robin Lopez and veteran power forward Hakim Warrick will be joining the Hornets.
The Hornets sent guard Jerome Dyson and two second-round draft picks to Minnesota.
The Timberwolves cleared cap space, which they needed, and the Suns get Minnesota's first-round pick and forward Wesley Johnson.

I think it's done in principle, but the details are wrong in that report too. We have to send Miller out to be able to take on Warrick and Lopez. Just sending Dyson out doesn't move enough salary. And Miller has to go to Phoenix because Minnesota is only involved to dump salary to go after Kirelenko.

I can see this blowing up in local media's face like the Christian Garic reporting of the Drew Brees deal.
If the Nets or Warriors land AK47 (per Marc Stein on ESPN right now) than will the Twolves still be interested in this trade? I could see the whole thing falling apart to be honest.

Not happening. Nets can only offer $1.2 million and I think the Warriors are limited to $3 or less. Minnesota supposedly is going to offer $8 or more.

Heh. I love the idea of trading those 2 2nds back to Minny, along with a guy who was a fill-in for late last season, for Lopez.
It's like pulling the change out of your couch and getting something useful.

It's looking like Warriors may miss out on Andrei Kirilenko and Carl Landry. Kirilenko wants $8M per in a new deal, according to Yahoo! Sports. That rules out GSW. Since Kirilenko played overseas last season, a sign-and-trade is not an option. Even if the Warriors were willing to go over luxury tax threshold and offer Kirilenko the mid-level exception, that still wouldn't be enough, not with T'wolves offering a deal starting at $8M.

That's from a Warriors beat writer.

It's like trading Julian Wright for Marco Belinelli

I would have loved AK47, but at $8m/yr, no thanks. If he were 5 years younger, sure.

And we give up what picks? Just those two future 2nds?
