so is this trade official yet?
Posted on 7/25/12 at 12:17 am to realtalk
No.
I'm thinking the hold up is either Lopez grousing about salary or Minne grousing ovee the trinkets it'll get.
Pure speculation.

does this mean we think 3-Anderson, 4-Davis, 5-Lopez? or is he just a bench guy?
and
what does this trade do for us for next year?
im assuming we will not be able to go after a max now

I'm with you I haven't watched much of Robin Lopez play, his numbers don't look too good but i can be swayed into thinking thats because he was behind Gortat playing only 14 mins a game
I'm just hoping that the Hornets don't handcuff themselves with a backup center when we don't have a "center of the future"
but as the old saying goes In Dell I Trust

If we don't go over the cap this year, we should be good with a max deal still. Rashart's $13m is coming off the books, and I doubt that we pick up Henry's $3.2m option. If we're going after a big time SF, we could not pick up Aminu's $3.8m option as well.

Too often people think roster construction is static. If we sign this guy, we can't sign this guy next year. And so on.
It's not static. It's freaking Tetris. Pieces fit now. And change.
Gm's acquire guys with every intention of dumping them later. Or using them in future trades. A lot happens. As long as we aren't taking on stupid salary, just worry about the construction of this years team. This is a very good move for this team.
Anderson and Davis will start most games, but things will shift, situationally. And if a guy wants to come here, max or not, teams have ways of making it work.

your right maybe Davis is the center of the future I was just speaking if Anderson plays the 3 and Davis is at the 4

Before this deal, assuming we didn't add any multi-year contracts, we could maybe offer the `low' max to a player (depends on cap for next year, that close) if we picked up all team options, and could over the `high max' if we gave them all (or most) up.
If we get Lopez, it'll have to be for at least 2y since he's a RFA, and we'll have to not pick up team options or send those players out to have `low' max room and do more to get the `middle' or `high' max deals.
Plus, players can get 105% (I think) of their prior salary even if it's above the `official' max. So some players may receive over-max deals . . . and uberdeal . . . next offseason.

haha i know and this is when we as fans get greedy after landing the number one pick getting Davis, rivers at ten, getting rid of oak and ariza's contracts, resigning Gordon, clearing cap space, and now with the opportunity of obtaining Robin Lopez
I can't say I'm not counting my blessings but its just natural after this "cleaning house phase" to not see what else is in store
this year will be full of excitement and the "buzz" around the Hornets has never higher I can't wait

So it looks like Lopez has been `on vacation' or something, and maybe that's what's held this up.
Also, with Dyson in there, it seems we can squeeze in Warrick and Lopez at the reported 3y $5mish annual salary.
The motivation for Minne appears to be the need to pay for the buyout of AK and maybe do the same for this other cat they want to sign. It seems extreme to me.
ETA:
Using $4m for Warrick and $762,195 for Dyson (or whoever), we get
$4,899,293
$5,119,761
$5,340,229
For Lopez's largest deal over 3y.

im thinking its more like 3-Anderson, 4-Davis, 5-Smith.
Lopez subs AD= 3-Anderson, 4-Smith, 5-Lopez
Lopez subs Smith=3-Anderson, 4-AD, 5-Lopez
Small line-up= 3-SF, 4-Anderson, 5-AD
Shooting= 3-SF, 4-Anderson, 5-Smith
there are a couple more but you should get the picture of flexibility.

Everyone needs to remember this. What has value in this league are players that are underpaid. That's what draft picks represent, cheap labor. As long as Lopez isn't overpaid the team will be able to move him if that's what it takes to get another star player.

For those wanting to know what the latest is:

The Minnesota Timberwolves are clearing salary-cap space to target free-agent forward Andrei Kirilenko by helping facilitate a three-team trade that would send Phoenix’s Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick to the New Orleans Hornets, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The trade gathered momentum Tuesday night and centered on Lopez agreeing to a three-year, $15 million-plus contract and moving to the Hornets in a sign-and-trade agreement, league sources told Y! Sports.
The rest of the deal included the Timberwolves sending small forward Wesley Johnson and a lottery-protected first-round draft pick to the Suns, sources said. Brad Miller, who is retiring and has a contract that can be waived before month’s end, and Warrick are also expected to be on the move. Miller’s contract would go to the Suns, and Warrick would possibly move to the Hornets, sources said. New Orleans would also send two future second-round draft picks to Minnesota.
The teams were still finalizing details, but sources said that Lopez, a restricted free agent, was returning soon from a vacation to take a physical for the Hornets. New Orleans had been working diligently for weeks on acquiring a center to play alongside No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis, and give Davis some inside support.

3/$15m is a good deal. Warrick's deal is about $4m per and expires in 2014. Both moveable contracts.

Still kinda scratching my head that the TWolves think signing AK will appease Love's outcry about them not getting great players around him.

Really good deal considering the deals most centers have signed this offseason.
