Well that depends on how well we do. If Davis shows that he can be a star to go along with Gordon and we can make some noise in the playoffs, then I could see someone wanting to come here. It probably won't be someone like a Dwight Howard but it could be a very good player.

basically my thoughts, as well

we're going to have to acquire guys who are good and may be overpriced from other teams who are dumping them, imho

Can anyone list all the powerhouse free agents that have been acquired in the last 10 years?

We're going to have to overpay to keep him and he isn't a player we really need. It makes no sense to give up the 10th pick for him and tie up so much money.

how do you expect the team to acquire talent?

1) Millsap should have greater trade value at the deadline than Ariza. So even if Millsap doesn't play one minute for the Hornets that's a win. I find it laughable how many of you are underestimating Millsap. I also think he could play with Davis. I read a Jazz blog a while back saying Al Jefferson was the most likely to get traded because supposedly one of the more effective front courts for the Jazz last season was Millsap and Favors. If that's the case I don't see why Millsap and Davis would be such a terrible match.

So a slight win to a big win for part 1 if Millsap fits with Davis long term.

2) #10 for Burks and #47

Draft Express listed his ceiling as Brandon Roy, sounds like a guy who deserves more than a rookie season to prove himself.

Googling Burks leads to lots of Jazz fans wondering why he wasn't getting more playing time. It was almost like googling Marcus Thornton and Hornets in 2011. An example

quote:

Alec Burks time on the bench should be brought up in a court of law because it was so criminal. His ability to score does not need to be taught, and while he can improve on his outside shooting, he has the potential to be great in the league. His per/36 minutes stats compare very closely to the stats Dwayne Wade put up his rookie season, a fact that should make every Utah Jazz fan smack their forehead in angst while cursing Ty Corbin and his player rotations.

Burks numbers also incriminate Coach Corbin, who often used a combination of Josh Howard, CJ Miles or Raja Bell in the starting lineup. Burks production would have easily matched that of Howard or Miles, while his offensive contributions would have eliminated the statistical edge that came from playing Bell on defense. Burks, in his youthful exuberance, still managed a better defensive rating than Hayward and Bell, although his rating was fourth worse on the team (I’m not counting Blake Ahearn, who only played 30 total minutes).

LINK

I'm officially intrigued. People who are arguably Jazz or Burks homers seem to think he's in the same class of guys we would take at 10 like Rivers and Ross. If that's true then this trade doesn't seem so terrible. It actually seems like a typical Demps move, not a huge win, but a slight improvement.

Sidenote...This is from Chad Ford chat today:

KC (Tulsa)

If the Hornets are looking to trade Pick 10 for a young veteran, who are some of the potential targets?

Chad Ford (3:38 PM)

Darren Collison, Eric Bledsoe, Evan Turner I've heard a lot. Ditto for Paul Millsap of the Jazz.

Chad Ford (3:38 PM)

By the way, I'm told the Blazers are looking at the same group of players at 11 if they decide to trade the pick.

I would take Evan Turner for 10 in a heartbeat

hollinger on bledsoe's rookie season

quote:

"Inefficient" doesn't really do Bledsoe's rookie season justice. Having him direct a possession, particularly in the halfcourt, was the basketball equivalent of punting on third down.
