He is already one of the best passing bigs in the NBA.

It has potential to be something pretty good. It's more valuable than Milsap for sure, given what we already have in place.

10th pick is insanely valuable in this draft where you could get a quality big body for $2.0M per year.

could is a key word here
the 10th pick is probably less than 50/50 to become a starter, based on draft history, and that's a random allotment

Even if you simply took Zeller you've got a quality backup center with post skills who will make under $2.5 million for the next few seasons. That's a very valuable asset, and he's probably the LEAST appealing option at 10.

the 10th pick isn't really that valuable

But if you can get a borderline All-Star for 10, that's a pretty good move. I have my doubts about resigning Millsap, but I'm not sure why there is so much hate for him here.

I may know where this is coming from. Maybe.
Can't we do the deal or not depending on if 'our guy' is at 10?
Better to have options?
Also, consider salary implications going into 2013-2014.

Exactly, so why waste it on someone we don't have a strong need for. A deal for Gay? Hell yea. A deal for Millsap? No thanks. (Notice how that doesn't mean I think Gay is amazing and Millsap sucks?)

What hate? I only see the one person trying to be witty, but I think most people like Millsaps, but don't like the suggested trade. I like Rudy Gay, but at about 60-70% of what he's making now. I'd hate to trade for Gay.

Exactly. Gay fits a need, can score the ball, has size, AND has All-Star upside. Millsap is capped. He is what he is. A SLIGHTLY above average high motor guy who is undersized. He's Carl Landry when Landry isn't checked out.

Millsaps is closer to an All-Star than Gay is.

PER measures Millsap's shitty defense how again?
I will concede that he'd suffice next to AD. But so would Carl Landry AND we'd keep our #10 pick.

a. he's not "shitty" on D
b. his defense is hurt by having al jeff, and not a shot blocker, behind him. with davis behind him, it will work

I like Milsap, but I don't think he fits here. I'd rather keep the #10 and take a chance with Rivers or Leonard.
Posted on 6/19/12 at 2:51 pm to MinnesotaTiger
You're underrating Millsap. I think he's a very good PF, but he's going to be at our lowest position of need following the draft, so there's no need to pay him the kind of money he's going to get from someone else. If Davis was 7 feet tall and more bulky then I'd love to trade for Millsap.

17/8 with 1bpg and almost 2 steals... on 50% shooting
Id love a front court of slightly above average motor guys

So why not resign Carl Landry and keep the #10 pick?
How much better do you really believe Millsap is than Landry? And keep in mind Landry will be 15% to 25% cheaper on his next deal than Millsap PLUS we keep the pick.
