Zion is and continues to be on a historical pace as a player. In the company of guys like Shaq and other all time greats with his early career output.

The ceiling for Ja was always best point guard in the league and he may get it one day. The expectation for Zion was always he would be slower to develop out his game but has enough of a dominating capacity that he would help teams win right away, which is all true and continues to be.

So you and MM and I guess other “emotional intelligent people” preferred Morant over Zion. Well that idea didn’t age well although it was pretty stupid to start with. I wish this kind of stuff was kept in secret on the elite board

how much of that is the injury, SVG, or Zion? we will probably not know anytime soon (possibly ever).

this comment is actually what i was most wrong about. we did figure out it was SVG like a couple days after this thread got rolling

page 2:

quote:

i think the weight, knee injury, and this lame arse SVG offense (for him) are 3 things messing with his head for sure

quote:

i don't think it's Adams. i think it's much more SVG's lame arse offense for Zion.

again, the SVG offense (for Zion) completely changed immediately after this thread and Zion improved dramatically

so unless you want to argue that Zion's role didn't dramatically change after this thread AND that the offensive role change didn't dramatically affect his play (in the positive), then i was right

be honest if I knew so far that this would be who we were getting I would have EASILY drafted Ja Morant over Zion.

Edit: So silver, you unintelligently emotionally reacted after 34 games. Makes the thread title even more hilarious.

My main point though Slow is that making sweeping judgments about any player still in their first seasons worth of games is absolutely stupid. It's not like we never had examples on this team to point to either, we just had AD. His first seasons worth of games and subsequent season was nowhere near what Zion is doing right now.

just to clarify, this was when curry was having his ankle issues and the reports were they would be a chronic thing and, iirc, prior to gordon's knee injury. Curry wasn't anywhere near that dude yet and it was being reported that he had a career-threatening ankle issue. he had 2 major ankle surgeries at that point and hadn't scored 20ppg yet

*ETA: he almost got traded for Months Ellis at that time

I remember a rumor floating around that we almost traded Gordon for Thompson and/or Barnes from the Warriors...was that true?

In his new book titled Victory Machine, Ethan Strauss of The Athletic revealed that in the 2011 NBA offseason, the Warriors and the Hornets were near to completing a deal that would send Paul to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Luckily, during that time, Paul had no interest in playing for the Warriors.

Dont think it was ever Gordon at any point, think this is what he was referring to.

THAT makes sense

Gordon's value cratered as soon as he came here, got injured, and regressed mightily. classic Pelicans' luck with injuries

I think it's time to state that Crow has never taste so delicious! My gosh Zion has turned it into a new level!

All jokes aside, when I created this thread if folks go back to the first 10-15 games compared to now Zion was clearly playing with less effort, energy, and explosion.

But I'm a honest person, I DEFINITELY jumped the gun when making this thread and I am truly happy to be wrong. There is still some concerns with his defense moving forward, but hopefully that will continue to improve with time and off-season planning.

yeah i'm pretty sure i tried to make sure (in this thread) that i said Zion was still clearly the #1 overall pick and an almost guaranteed multi-time allstar and potential MVP candidate here or there, just not Lebron, basically

i never, ever ever ever ever ever ever said/believed Ja was the right pick
