You're kidding right? You are not paying attention if you do not think Dumars thought he had a shot at a winning season. He traded a valuable expiring contract for Poole and gave up an unprotected pick and a very lightly protected pick for a mid-1st round player. He certainly thought he could win as his moves exhibit. He also chose to keep Zion and Willie.

Dumars might end up as worse than Griffin, but he is most definitely not at fault for where we are right now.
He did not choose to keep Willie and Zion, he was forced to, otherwise wouldn't have been hired (and I am sure every one of you would have accepted the position under those conditions).
CJ "valuable" expiring contract was simply shifted for next year and gave us Bey and Peavy.
He never said that he expects a winning season, quite the opposite - he wants to develop a culture. This year was always a valuation year for him - in terms of coaching and roster.
You are all complaining that we suck, we are the worst in the league and so on, but right now JB is doing exactly what he has to do. Developing the rookies, improving the offense which is not focused on Zion, trying to establish some defense habits too.
Dumars should be judged on what he will do this trade deadline and in the offseason (and I am skeptical about those moves too), but so far he is way behind the "achievements" of Griffin.

There is no way anyone could have objectively thought this was going to be a winning season

There were several here in the 45 plus wins this year. They don’t post here very often much now.

Developing players? Isn’t that what the Birmingham G League is for?

Good luck getting people to buy season tickets next season.

How many years have we been having developing seasons? Are we on the 10 year plan? Twenty year plan?

Sure did not take long for the Thunder and Spurs to rebuild after a blow up. They rebuild right. We just been rebuilding since the team got here .

Suns already a playoff team again after their rebuild.

Also why would Thibs want this job if Lakers job becomes available?

That’s why you move now. Why wait? Go after him and start the rebuild.

He wouldn’t and nobody worth a flip will want this poverty job until Gayle sells and the team moves.

Griff fired three coaches and the new guy gets 6 months. For sure same folk who rearrange deck chairs when the ship hits the iceberg

What else was he going to say? CJ was already gone before Griff was let go. Queen and Fears are his big bet, Three maybe four of Zion, Herb, DJM, Poole, TM3, and Jose will be gone before next years draft. That will get the Pels back in the first round, maybe multiple picks.

What are you drinking?

Teams don't gamble a future 1st if so, if anything they end up offloading to build up a war chest...

Huh? Dumars made the CJ trade for Poole. He thought Poole was part of the future here and a significant piece of the "core."

Yeah, every team sends their 1st round picks in the G-league....

And Dumars was the GM all these years?

That's right, but again is that Dumars fault or Griffins?
We all know he sucked his later years in Detroit and there is a big chance he won't be better here, but we have to judge him on what he will do next with the trades and the coach hire.

Perhaps because they have a star who can close out games and is playing regularly.

Teams gambles future 1st all the time, simply not so reckless. And he got the future 1st one year earlier.
And actually what exactly this have in common with the fact that this year he wanted to evaluate what the team is plus the 3 rookies?
