You kniw whats funny his playing style and even build is similar to curry and trae more than Ray. The issue with Hawkins will be his handle, playmaking and dribble penetration which he needs to absolutely improve. But his style of play, constantly running off ball, and always ready to shoot is exactly like them.

Eh he also said Scoot is better than westbrook and walker is similar to pascal. The whole Ray Allen comps are takes because he went to UConn too. But then again I ate my crow and honestly didn’t believe in the guy. Happy he’s thriving as a pelican though.

I asked yesterday, and still wonder, how did this guy last till the 14th pick of the draft? Every team in the NBA needs a guy like him, even if the rest of his game never improves.

Just for comparison,

Nickeil Alexander-Walker was a 17th pick.
Kira Lewis was a 13th pick.
Trey Murphy was a 17th pick.
Dyson Daniels was a 8th pick.

The NBA draft is crapshoot. Look at guys like Kira and even Scoot. You never know how guys will assimilate to NBA regular season. Not preseason or summer league but regular season. The competition in college and gleague is just not remotely the same.

He went about where he was expected. In order to get playing time consistently, his game will have to develop and improve (and I am sure it will). He also needs to hit the weight room. He has played fantastic thus far, but let's not get carried away yet in saying that he is better than many of those picked before him even if his game never improves.

Like others said, draft is a crapshoot. We took Kira before Maxey who's dropping 50 point games.

That was just a poor pick. Many liked Maxey over Lewis and many saw Lewis being too small. I think Griff drafted Kira in a panic as he was hoping to deal the pick and that fell through.

And I know people wanted Maxey over Kira but no one thought he would become this. Rule of thumb- always draft kentucky guards. Cason Wallace looks good too.

Their drafts since the covid draft has been money. Trey, Herb, Dyson, and Hawkins are all good selections. The jury is still out Liddell but you can't hit on all of them.

EJ was a 2nd rounder at least.

I didn’t even realize he went to UCONN and thought of Ray Allen. The way he was rises on his jumper and his release look very similar.

Not to nitpick but I've been trying to figure out every time i see Scoot comps:

quote:

3 PG Scoot Henderson (better Westbrook)
Where is this freak athleticism everyone talks about? He doesn't seem to have 1/10th of the athleticism of all the dudes he was comped to, what am I missing?

Did you really just give your own alter a pat on the back for a mediocre take?

I think the NBA gets caught up in youth prospects. He’s 21 so he’s an older rookie.

I was just joking. Because he and Ray are both slender, quick-release, and rise on their jumper. I forgot Ray went to UCONN. He's not close to Ray. But if he can just get stronger, and continue to improve. He's worth the pick.

I agree. It's hit or miss with the younger prospects. Trey and Herb are working out fine. Two players that didn't leave early.

Offensively he IS Peja 2.0. He's already better defensively, which I half expected but am glad to see.
