The Memphis Grizzlies have informed pending unrestricted free agent Dillon Brooks that he will not be brought back under any circumstances, league sources tell The Athletic.
After his tumultuous end to the season, Brooks was told about the Grizzlies‘ decision to move on in exit meetings with team officials in recent days, those sources said. Memphis and Brooks discussed in exit meetings that it’s best for both sides to have a fresh start, sources added.

Brooks, 27, a second-round pick out of Oregon in 2017, has spent his entire six-year NBA career with the Grizzlies. He is the Grizzlies’ longest-tenured player, establishing himself as a three-and-D wing who could serve as a starter for some teams. He has often been considered part of their heart and soul, as a fiery, gritty defender not afraid to say what’s on his mind.

That just means Draymond was right.

Let's just make this the offseason NBA thread, off to a heck of a start.
Never seen a report like that. Memphis wants no part of him, but they should have realized that before the playoffs started instead of letting Brooks shoot them out of games over and over.

Any positive he brings, Jose and Naji bring much more of.

Yeah this team needs a dude who is a bark no bite a notorious chucker who can't shoot and ran like a punk from the media. After that playoff performance dude should be shipped to China.

When an organization tells you they want you gone right after the season... and after 6 productive seasons, that really tells you how cancerous he's become.

I've been saying since the first time we played Memphis this year what an a-hole Brooks is.
He constantly fouls BI and gets away with it.
You could tell Joel clearly hated this dude.
He's a Grade A punk.
But I think this is good news for the Pels. As much of a douche as Brooks is, he owned the hell out of us. I think this makes Memphis worse.

This actually hurts the Pels.
I’ve been long saying Memphis was going to implode and they got so close to what I envisioned-a total riff between the team, possibly a fight in the huddle or locker room. Seems like they are getting ahead of the game here.

Brooks would be a great player if he'd realize he isn't a good offensive option.
If he shot 5-7 times a game, he'd be super valuable.
If I remember correctly, dude gave BI a hell of a time.

I think this makes Memphis worse.
You could see it, even on a small sample size and even with the unreliable Plus/Minus in the playoffs.
When Kennard was out there, the spacing was set nicely for Ja to have room to do his thing. When Brooks is in there, all the spacing goes away, and it's much more difficult for Ja to be good at what he does well.
And Kennard isn't even a good basketball player, but just having him out there even if he doesn't take a single shot and with his deficiencies on defense was very obviously better than having Brooks out there being the worst offensive basketball player in the playoffs and not really stopping or containing anyone on defense.

Memphis has had a leadership problem. Brooks would not have done most of his antics on a team like the Pels, because CJ would have told him to STFU.
And, no, I already said that I don't want him, but I think he's someone who could really benefit a team with the leadership to keep him in line.

It may be a bit of a reach to indirectly blame Ja for the Brooks playoff comments, but Ja is the face of the franchise, he sets the culture.
He was doing a version of the same thing, not showing respect to other teams, so Brooks follows suit.
If you're the face of the franchise, you get your team in order. Ja didn't do that IMO because he set the tone around him that doing that stuff was what you actually should be doing.
And also, if Memphis knows Brooks is such a cancer to make this type of statement, they should have not given him as many minutes as they did in the postseason.

I can’t see how this guy gets another job in NBA. Maybe the Washington Generals pick him up
