Griffin: Maybe Zion ready for 1st round or during 1st round

Lopez:
quote:
David Griffin on Zion Williamson: “I think it’s a matter of all the objective metrics we can have on where he is at and how he feels lining up. And to this point they haven’t.”
Until that happens, Griff said, Z won’t be cleared for 5-on-5.
Said metrics are based on things they can measure in the weight room in terms of flexibility & court speed.
Also Z’s reaction to how he feels after each exercise.
“When he feels like him, he’ll tell us he’s ready for the next phase. And to this stage he hasn’t felt like that.”
On Z’s potential availability, Griff said they wouldn’t be in a position to get him 5-on-5 work prior to play-in games.
“Based on today, our best possible outcome if everything lined up perfectly maybe you’re in a position to practice prior to a 1st round or during a 1st round.”
Griff added “it’s really hard. We may never get to that point either. If it’s not a situation where all those things align and he feels the way he needs to feel, then we’re not gonna let him go to the next phase.”

cold water.
there's a metric before we even ask him if he wants to do 5 v 5.

Odds are going to be extremely low we even make it to the actual playoffs unless we pull off a miracle and win our last two and the Clips choke against the Blazers

We can make it to the Finals and I still don't believe Zion would play a second.

From Griff:
“He had gotten to 3-on-3 on court. And just didn’t feel the next day or the next two days after that the progression made sense. He hasn’t been re-injured. He hasn’t even reported soreness. It’s more of like a hesitancy.”

Zion wants to play. Griff and the sham medical staff are holding him out. What's messed up is Zion is being slandered when it's the higher ups.

I’m just done with this guy. Can’t stay healthy. I get embiid had a similar start to his career but idk how Zion stays healthy and fit for a long time. 6’6 285 is not sustainable for the amount of usage he gets

That's just Griff putting it all on Zion.

I am not purchasing what the used car salesman is selling. Simple as.

Yep. I know everyone thinks “Z wants to play” “Z is dying to play”
Everything Griff is saying here is basically the opposite. And as much as a guy like Griff plays everything tight to the vest, for him to say this is pretty telling. He’s putting the pressure on Zion with all of his statements, not the training staff IMO

Forget a new training staff, this team needs a fricking psychiatrist. Christ. Our two most important players are literally scared to rehab injuries and get on the court.
