The point of making the pick is taking a chance on someone with very little obligations. You bring him in and see what he can do. If you think he's worthy of putting the development into him, then you keep him, if not, you simply let him go. What's the harm in that? You think Milwaukee drafted Brogdon with the expectation he'd be a starter? NO. they drafted him b/c they thought he might be good, then brought him in and realized he was actually good, so they did what was necessary to keep him. The Wizards took Admiral Schoefield in the 2nd last year after drafting Rui in the first. I doubt they expected him to make the team much less get some minutes. But you bring guys in and see what they are made of and decide if you want to keep them or not, since there's nothing making you keep them other than if they are good enough. The Hawks found minutes for Bruno Fernando even though they have Capella/Collins/Dedmon/Len/Jones. He impressed them enough as a 2nd rounder to give him a chance.

But we're still getting 2nd rounders to replace this pick, so we will eventually get a guy who we can evaluate.

The idea that it's better to do it in a couple of years when we can complete evaluations on some of these current guys to know what we have as well as have more roster spots. I know you mentioned they don't need minutes, but if you decide you like the guy, it would be ideal for their to be minutes available for them, which we just don't seem to have for this coming season.

The Pelicans who have an infinite amount of picks in the next couple of years will need to start being picky with their roster spots. If we can get one really good addition to the rotation every year, there’s really nothing to complain about. There needs to be stability in the roster as well. You can’t be adding 2-3 guys every single year and create a revolving door of players who likely won’t make the team. Turning them into future assets is about as good as it gets.

I gotta say, i was pretty irritated that we traded our 3 picks last night after Kira.

It depends on what we did.

It if was a trade swap and we just got picks in other drafts then I am Generally ok with it.

If we don’t see a player we like at a spot I have no problem punting.

At some point we’ll have a lot of future picks and if Zion/BI are ready we’ll ship those to a rebuilding team for a player.

It's not just that we already have so many young players to develop-- it's also that we need to figure out if they fit or not.

Jaxson Hayes has amazing potential, but we need to see if it can develop and if he can play alongside Zion. If not, then we will need to trade him to a team that's a better fit.

We have to give NAW enough playing time to see if he can learn better defense, cut down on the turnovers, and finish better at the rim. If so, he could be a great piece for us, but if not, then we'll need to move on. This season is huge for Nico Melli, to see if he's adapted to the NBA and can be a valuable player, or if he's destined to only be an end-of-the-bench guy.

And, of course, we have to make a decision on Lonzo.

So, we actually have to play those guys, plus Kira.

Of all the 2nd round players who've succeeded, a lot of them spent time in the G-League. With no Summer League and no G-League, there's no opportunity to develop anyone who isn't good enough to play significant minutes-- and 2nd round players are certainly never expected to initially play significant minutes.

Pushing those picks back was very smart.

Wonder what it would take to add Derrick Jones Jr. Would MLE be enough?

I think he makes less than the full MLE but I know nothing.

NBA needs a better minor league system where guys can compete for a job, same with NFL. NHL has the best system for minor league players trying to make the pros

Miami has interest in Hill, I would do a S&T of DJJ for Hill, that way we free up the MLE and BAE for 2 more guys, like Baynes and Augustin
