I have my doubts how tradeable Gordon was to begin with. The size of his contract makes it hard to find a match without taking garbage back. I have regularly brought up Boston because they have David Lee, but Gordon would probably break their defense.

I think you might get more value for Ryno nearer to the deadline. On the BSS podcast they were talking about how wide open the East was with no clear #2 team and if you could get multiple teams bidding with each other for a guy that can put them over the top who knows what you can pull. They'll pay more when they're closer to the finish line and the allure of the Conference Finals clouds their long term vision.

They also talked about the somewhat old rumors of Riley ready to cash in Winslow for a star because he wants to win now. Could some sort of Ryno package net you Melo? Would the Heat want Melo?

4 team trade
Pels get Justise Winslow, Joe Johnson
Heat gets Melo
Knicks get Hassan Whiteside, Ryno, Luol Deng
Nets get Tyreke, Josh McRoberts, Norris Cole
LINK

Pels clear cap space and get a top 10 pick defensive wing on a rookie deal.

Heat get a 3rd star to put next to Wade and Bosh.

Knicks get a stretch 4 and rim protector to put next to Porzingis and form a potentially nice 3 big rotation and they replace Melo with a solid SF in Deng. Yes they're all rentals, but it's the Knicks, they'll assume they can resign them. Maybe the Nets can do a flip of Jarrett Jack for some 2nds to give to the Knicks.

Nets get 2 players that aren't bad, are on reasonable deals and can't leave, and all they had to give up was Joe Johnson and maybe Jarrett Jack.

Who says no? Miami is giving up a lot, but if they want a win now star with many years left on his deal, you usually pay a lot. They also are getting what is essentially a 4th max player, which is hard to achieve. I think it's most iffy for the Knicks like I mentioned before because all 3 guys are expiring. But that really seems like the only reason it's not a good return on breaking up with Melo and handing the team over to Porzingis. The talent return seems adequate and it also might roll back expectations a bit if Porzingis is the top dog instead of Melo.

Did that trade actually just get offered? I only remember speculation?

At the time it sounded like we offered and then Golden State leaked a "Really? Gordon for Thompson?" story to publicly laugh at Dell for suggesting it. Now there were a ton of fans at the time who felt Klay for Gordon was an inadequate return which is crazy in hindsight. We had such high hopes for Gordon.

Who would want EG that wouldn't have the cap space to sign him? The Clippers? There will be too much cap space for something like that to happen. You often don't get much out of it anyway. IIRC the wizards only got a trade exception out of the Ariza S&T.

Pelicans SG Eric Gordon to miss 4-6 weeks due to broken finger on shooting hand

Probably makes him nontradable, which might be a blessing is disguise. Dell would have traded him for a crappy longer contract and a player/pick.

Now his salary comes off our books. If only the pelicans could make a pitch to a top free agent to come and play with AD.

Considering the total lack of trade movement around the league, I'm not sure that's correct.

Knicks. They are finally decent and likeable after 15 years of nonsense with a real shot at the playoffs; why break that up for this package? Melo doesn't quite fit their timeline (neither does Deng), but he's been playing great.

They move the (by far) best player in the deal and don't get back the best asset (Winslow)? They dump Melo to then be forced to give Anderson, Deng, and Whiteside huge $$?

Also not sure why they are interested in Whiteside. Lopez will cost less, doesn't have chemistry questions, and has been a good rim protector for them. Plus Porzingis plays the 5 some already. Adding Whiteside, his non Bird Rights, and potential max contract seems like working really hard to not go very far.

I do think Miami would move Dragic in a Melo deal. Between Melo and Wade, I'm not sure what Dragic would do. Dragic in Gentry's system at his price over the next few years would be an interesting get.

ETA: The problem with these deals for NO is that Miami has one young guy and no picks. The Nets are in the same boat, but with a worse young guy. And the Knicks aren't dealing Melo and giving up picks. Unless there are some Jerian Grant truthers out there, the Pels aren't getting back the assets most think they should be seeking. Again, I have no idea why the Knicks wouldn't demand Winslow as part of any Melo deal.

Gem post from Fun Bunch in the EG-Klay Trade thread.

Its not an even swap. We have to take on a bad contract like Jefferson to make it work, and Klay isn't the player that Gordon is. Gordon has elite talent, Klay does not. A lot of GSW fans are frustrated with "Klank" right now. We would have to get more. If not, its clear that Dell just wants EG gone and gone soon.

We had serious debates about who was better, Gordon or Harden. You have to remember that all Pels fans saw was the up and coming Gordon in LA, then his first game as a Hornican he drops 20 and a game winner, and 9 games later he was done for the season but left us with a 20.6 ppg average and a 19.2 PER. There were people that thought he'd never be able to stay healthy, but at the time nobody thought he was just a mediocre player.

Well, to be fair, sitting out essentially two seasons with injuries can really stunt a young player's development.

Not saying that EG would have blossomed into a top 5 SG in the league, but I'd have to imagine his career averages would be significantly better had he maintained an average level of health.

And that's just from a development perspective, his injuries have obviously made it difficult for him do what he did early in his career like driving to the basket and finishing.

shite, dude was in the dunk contest in 2010. Now it's a rare sight for him to dunk the ball.

Sure, you could say he is at best, a little above average now, but to say he's always just been a mediocre player is a stretch imo. Just another what could have been story.

I was wrong and admitted that like 2-3 years ago. At the time, GSW fans absolutely hated Klay. Hated him. He was throwing up a lot of shots. Everyone says stupid shite if they are here long enough.

I know you're an alter, so give us some of your other screennames so we can analyze your posts?
