I agree. Maybe he’ll put it together in 2-3 more years, but you can get what he gives you now for the minimum. Selling now is selling high until he becomes a useful player. With ADs window he should be moved this year.

Has anybody talked about Pat Connaughton? I believe he is an UFA and would be cheap. More of a SG, but has some size and would be our biggest guard. So he can play some SF. New environment could give him new life..

He’s needs a new life after Jrue ended his old one in the playoffs.

He played so well before the injury. Was devastated for him. Hope he gets a chance somewhere.

Yeah I'd be happy for Canaan.
Still only 27.
Any news on how his ankle is going? Is he even ready to start playing?
If he is I'd be happy with Canaan and Ennis to round out the roster and make upgrades in Feb.
Payton/Canaan/Jackson
Holiday/Moore/Clark
Hill/Miller/Ennis
Davis/Mirotic/Diallo
Randle/Okafor/Ajinca
Two way:
Bluiett
Carr or SL SF

Ennis for the minimum is a pipe dream IMO.
Teams still have MLE available. Not to mention BAE.
On the other hand - more time is passing, the bigger chance to get a player on minimum contract bargain. Especially when you can offer a role.

Yep. Hit the nail on the head. Teams that can give him a role.
I think Pelicans can do that.
He put up his best numbers when he last played in NO.
If he wants another pay day then a season with a role which suits his playing style, the Pelicans are it.

One way to pay Ennis more is to do a S&T with Detroit. Ajinca for Ish Smith saves Detroit $700,000 and lets you offer Ennis about $4 million per year. But Detroit would need to be ready to dump Ish for that to be an option and the Pels would have to want him. With Payton as the backup do they want a 2nd non shooting PG meaning your backup and starter couldn’t play together?

Would they ever have to considering the 3 of the 4 SG options are combo guards (Jrue, Clark, and Jackson)?

They do run 3 guard a lot. I guess if you had Hill/Ennis/Miller you wouldn't need 3 guard lineups as much though. But Hill and Ennis aren't good shooters themselves, so if Ish/Payton are your PGs most of the time then most of the time they'd be running with a non threat at SF. That can't be good for the spacing.

Yeah, his rehab seems to be going well. He was at the summer league games with a lot of the Suns guys this weekend. This story is from about a week ago.

Studying all the remaining guards who could be had for the minimum (not counting guys like Napier, Ellington, IT3, etc)
the guy I like best is Devin Harris. Gives the vet leadership. Has size. Can hit the 3, gets to the FT line at a better rate than most. He checks the most boxes by far.

How good of a ball handler is Harris though? Truly asking.

I mean, he is better than Clark or Jrue. Not like he is Rondo, but I would say he is the best ball handler on the team, if signed. Smart in the pick and roll, and what Finch would like best is that he is a top level cutter

The market is pretty bare. I think it probably is a slim chance he would come here on the minimum, but hoping the Clippers buy out Teodosic.

I think he can play it 18-20 minutes a game. Wouldn't ask for more than that from him
