It’s hard to be optimistic. Only optimistic thing I would be about is that he lets the GM (Bryson Graham) run things, fire Willie and hire a good coach.

That is where I am at. I won't ever give up on the team (just like the Saints) I really hope Dumars is more of the other BS role and not the Basketball part. Lol.. but if he fires Willie it would help.

I would bet money that’s who Dumars would draft if we don’t get 1 or 2

I come in peace. Why are they leaving out Pistons title teams? I mean Dumars built those Pistons teams. Should’ve won in 05. Won in 04.
Traded for Ben Wallace
Traded Rip Hamilton
Signed Billups
Signed Corliss
Traded for Sheed
Problem is that was 20 years ago. Wasn’t able to keep it going. Think they made 6 straight ECF.

He put together a good run. He tried to extend it and took some risks that did not work out. He never tore it down to rebuild. Looking at Pistons message boards, it looks like the owner passed during that period and there was some other circumstances that contributed. But he definitely made mistakes. Did he learn from that, is the question.
I've said in other threads, I don't think he would be that involved in player movement. Benson needs someone to run the business portion of the franchise, run day to day. I believe that Dumars would take on more of that role, even better that he has deep relationships with the league and local/national businesses. That side has seemed to slip. But the draft, player acquisition and development, trades, coaching staff.. all that stuff should be managed by the GM. I'll be more interested to see who he finds for that role..

Basically for 7-8 years he SUCKED. Like total disaster and failed miserably.
Even during the 2000-2006 period where they started to win he made so many many horrid moves

This is the problem here. You can't focus only on the bad 2nd half of his Pistons run and ignore the great first half. Nor can you just tout his championship run and forget how bad things got at the end. Both happened and he is responsible for both.
He built a champion and a perennial playoff contender, and when that team aged out he was unable to replace it.
Which Joe Dumars will we get? Who knows?

You absolutely can, because the first part was TWENTY YEARS AGO.
He made horrible moves during that run too that got covered up by some truly lucky moves.
He never got another full time job. Eleven years went by without him getting another full time exec role.
Do you know how much the game has changed since that? The guy hasn't won a thing since KATRINA. The Hornets were practicing around exotic animal shows at that time.
Analytics basically didn't exist.
The league couldn't be more different

This is BS. You can hate the guy not doing anything in 20+ yrs (valid), but they were good then.
