Pretty sure he will go in the first and with us picking PG’s back to back years idk if it makes sense

Would be an upside pick. Wouldn't hate it. Would have to trust in Vinson to work on his shooting. Has the physical attributes to guard 3/4s, which we need

Saw Bouknight rising in the draft boards. Kind of reminds me of Lavine. His confidence is ridiculous

Might be a good idea to draft this guy just so he can give Zion some tips. As good as Z is at 300 pounds, I think him losing 30 pounds and getting back to Duke Zion movement and activity levels improves our team more than almost anything other than trading for a big fish like Dame.

working out for Phoenix taking Jalen Smith at 10th when he was projected in the 20's?
How about the Bucks taking Thon Maker at 10,
hindsight.
I guess you were against taking hayes.
I wasnt against hayes because other people had him going late.
i was against taking him because he lacked basketball skills.
I suppose TeddyGm can take only players consensus rated within 2 picks of your slot.

The upside is there, but he would have to interview well to be convinced he can maximize his talent. Just some weird things with him. The whole withdrawing from Duke thing was odd, but maybe you write it off with circumstances surrounding COVID and collegiate sports in general. But apparently he did some odd ball stuff in high school too: he transferred to IMG for his senior season but transferred back to his original school in January without ever playing a game for IMG. I read where he may have been trying to get eligible for last year's draft so that may have something to do with it. Just funky stuff that I would stay away from unless he addresses it well in interviews.

what sucks if we keep this pick is that there are a few guys with lots of potential who WILL hit, and if we don't pick them we'll always have a ton of hindsight bias in retrospect

The thing about this draft is 10 for 16,18 and shedding a contract should reasonably be on the table AND it seems like there are a lot of worthwhile players that will still be on the board in the late teens. If there's a guy the team is convinced will stand out in this tier like Giddey, take him at 10. If not trade back and get 2 guys to double your odds that you pull a hidden gem.

No. I agree with what you said to an extent. Take who you want regardless of the mocks, but when literally every mock is saying this guy is in the 20's, and you take him at 10, maybe your scouting sucks, and judging by the picks Phoenix has made the last few years, yes they do indeed suck. Had they not lucked into Booker, they'd still be a shite show. They've squandered away top 10 picks like we've never seen before.
I wanted to pick Bey last year. It would not have been a reach to take him at 13.

If we can’t move #10 as part of a package for a big fish I would have no issue moving it for #16 and #18. You could possibly take Chris Duarte (who I think is one of the more NBA ready prospects, which he should be considering his age) with one of the picks and draft for upside with the other. Garuba, Zairie Williams, Tre Mann, Sharife Cooper, Jalen Johnson, etc

Who has to be there at 10 for us to not trade down to 16 and 18?
Posted on 6/28/21 at 9:54 am to Pelefraan 1
Giddey/Sengun are both just 18 and already have a lot of skill. I can see them being the high updside type of players the FO would go for. BUT they added Gar Forman to help with scouting and most of his picks in Chicago were upper classmen. He'd probably be pushing more for someone like Duarte. So that's one thing that is different, there is a voice in the room this year that would probably be happier trading down for Duarte than taking the biggest swing you can at 10.

Assuming Cade, Green, Mobley, Barnes, Suggs, and Kuminga are off the board, I think Giddey and maybe Moody would be two guys I'd rather grab at 10 than trade down. It would be hard for me to pass on Giddey as a high ceiling oversized playmaker with really good feel for the game. Moody also seems like a good bet with his shooting, defense, IQ, and measurements.
Like SFP said, if we don't hit on our pick (assuming we make a FRP), it's going to burn because there are so many really high upside prospects that pure numbers say that one or two are going to hit really well in the late lotto on back.

while i agree, and i wouldn't mind doing this if your guy isn't there at 10, like Moody as i think Giddey may still be there at 16, trading back in the NBA draft like this seems to never work out well for the team trading back.

Auburn's JT Thor is scheduled for consecutive workouts with the Pacers, Hornets and Pelicans, per source. Three late-lottery teams.

Pels are working out JT Thor. Potential 3&D PF who has been shooting up the draft boards in recent weeks. Shot it just under 30% from 3 but it seems like a lot of people buy his shooting stroke regardless. One of the younger guys in the class -- doesn't turn 19 until August.

Looks like the Pelicans are hoping to come out of the draft with a stretch big at some point. Glad to see it's a priority.

Just checked out a highlight clip and wondered why this guy isn't in the top 10. He looks like Wenyen Gabriel if he were fluid, high motor and aggressive. Then I looked at his shooting percentages 30% from 3 and 44% overall. I don't know if he's bad at the rim too or just takes a bunch of jumpshots he shouldn't, but a guy that big with those physical tools should be shooting way higher than 44% from the field.
The crazy thing is his FT% is 74%. That's probably where the intrigue is coming from. Teams think they can fix him.

Bouknight reminds me a lot of Bradley Beal’s workout where these guys would not miss a shot at all during workouts for teams. I watched some of his highlights and he was always surrounded by at least 2 opponents. Good defense where opponents shot 37.5% against him. Only negative I can find is that he doesn’t have many assists, so I’m not sure if the vision is there.
