Does firing yet another coach make Griffin more or less likely to make big moves NOW?

Griffin has now fired two HCs in two seasons, one of whom he hired 8 months ago after a 2 month, methodical search.

He had just about as bad an offseason as a POBO/GM can have.

The fanbase is pretty ticked off, and you know Gayle cannot be happy, no matter what they say, about paying yet another coach for his frick up.

He can't frick up another coaching hire. And what is the best way to have a coach look good? Have an actually good roster with talent. And they are going to have to trade some of their assets to do that.

So, do you think that firing yet another coach, and Griffin's arse now firmly planted in the hot seat, makes him more likely to unload warchest assets this offseason?

We are going into year 3 of Zion. Mavs and Hawks are both in year 3 of Luka and Trae. I believe it's playoffs or he is looking for a new job. So to answer your question, yes. We will hold nothing back and include a warchest of assets this offseason.

I think we see a lot more win now moves. Maybe nothing huge but for sure into win now mode.

I think the play of Zion makes it more likely we try to make a big move.

I think “people forget” that going into this season Zion had only played like 24 games. We still weren’t 100% sure what we had and how long he might take to develop. Yes, he had flashes, but was it sustainable? Would he need another year of growth? Do we need to slow play the teams development around him?

Now we know. He’s a superstar. The clock is ticking. The time to compete is now. Another year of slow development and he may have one foot and half his arse out the door.

I think they were going to make big moves this offseason regardless. I also think this upcoming season is going to be an inflection point for Griff anyway, which is why he made the coaching move, and is why he's going to make roster moves.

I just hope the coaching move wasn't due to Griff thinking that we have the talent on the roster to win, and that coaching was the only problem. I don't believe this to be the case though.

ETA: I will be very disappointed if we go into next season without addressing the elephant in the room that there is a lack of a primary ball handler on this team.

I thought he was going to do that even if Stan was here, but yeah he has to know this is it for him. Not many too many get the luxury of hiring a 3rd coach.

We're making big moves for sure. We need to and unfortunately all these other teams know that. So don't expect Griff to be winning more of the mega trades like he has with AD and Jrue.

I pray to Jesus that one of their big moves is not signing Lonzo to fat contract. If that happens this team is screwed big time. I wonder how it is going to work with bringing in another new coach. Will the new coach have more of an input with the roster and the players they sign? Because Griff and co. screwed up last offseason pretty bad

Oh, I'm sorry. Somehow I'll live up to your high tread standards, someday.

I imagine that Griffin is going to get input from his new coach on personnel moves.

Griffin now has a bit of a reputation as a micromanager of his coaches, so soliciting input will be important at the outset.

I expect us to make a big move now, but only if Griffin thinks it's the right move. If the right deal isn't available, we could make smaller moves now and wait until the trade deadline for the big deal.

Keep it up Bunchie. I enjoy your threads. Well, the ones that you aren’t starting in the middle of a game at least.

Only bunchies of fun is worthy enough to regurgitate thoughts and deem them important enough to have its own thread.

wish we had some amount of success to hang our hats on. Now teams around the league will smell Griff's desperation to make a move and probably pay a premium

I'm not opposed to a little overpay if it's necessary to get the deal done because we definitely have the assets to make it happen.

But an argument can be made that just letting this team grow naturally with Hayes and NAW coming into their own may be all we need to do. Unfortunately we just do not have the time or luxury to wait and find out.

So if no one wants to deal with us unless we unload the warchest for any move then the move to make is to just stand pat this offseason. Us fans won't be happy about it because we'll probably see a bunch of other teams making moves but it would be the right thing to do.

There are just not going to be many sellers this offseason. It is going to be tough to make any major deals.

I think what we have learned about Griffin is that what he says and what he does seems like 2 very different things

If we go by what he says, he won't make big moves this offseason. He says he wants to build "sustainable success." That tells me he isn't going to overpay until he feels the time is right

If we go by what he does, he will probably make some moves. He said he was "in lock-step" with both Gentry & SVG but fired them both after one season. He also told JJ he'd get him to Brooklyn (allegedly) but sent him to Dallas.

Fact is, he needs to make win-now moves. He has to be aware that if he doesn't win, and Zion wants out, he won't be around to use all that draft capital that he acquired

I would say this Zion family leak makes it a lot more likely. You need to win to put out the fire, are you going to bet on an MLE signing to get you there or trade multiple 1sts for someone like Brogdon or CJ?
