How much credit do these guys get. I’ve followed this board for years now. I know what this board thought of Gentry just three weeks ago when playoffs were starting to ship. Thoughts on him now?

I’ve been impressed with his coaching and I’m possibly the biggest Stotts fan alive and I will say Gentry has outcoached Stotts by a good margin. Demps has put together a scrappy roster that plays with a chip on its shoulder as well.

I would grade Demps in a few different tiers
Minimum contract Free Agency Signings: A-
Major Free Agency Signings: C-
Trades: A
Drafting: B-

Gentry has done an excellent job at surrounding himself with the proper assistants, he finally has a roster that can push the pace.

Finch is solid but rondo really runs the show when he’s on the floor. Need to give rondo a decent contract.

I've been saying all year I really like this staff. Even if Gentry is on the low end of the Average Coach tier, I would consider this an above average coaching staff. Rondo being a coach on the floor helps a lot too.

I think Demps has redeemed himself a good bit. Jrue has vindicated the Jrue moves, If Boogie comes back and can still be at least be very good he's vindicated a lot of the wasted draft picks, and Mirotic looks to have undone the damage from Asik.

He also has painted the team into a corner that no GM is getting out of without blowing up the team. He's had a good bit of success making trades at the deadline, so hopefully next February he can undo his most recent mistakes and turn Hill/Ajinca/1st into a decent starting wing. Then people can start to trust him again.

So, is there any question that Rondo will be an NBA head coach some day?

If he can be patient with a bunch of fools, he’d be great.

The Asik moves were killers. If Demps gets fired, that will be his epitaph. Is GB willing to go way into the tax? That’s really the only way Dell can go at this point.

Gentry is a different story. He has had a banged up team for years, but changed everything on the fly, and the team has responded. He and his staff have been phenomenal since Boogie went down. Just last week I was posting that Gentry doesn’t have much in the way of leverage re more years on his deal. Looking at this POR series, boy was that a bad timing on my part...

All the long time posters on this board have been clamoring for AD at the 5 for years. Well AD has bought into it, and the results speak for themselves.

Since the Solo deal, Dell has been pretty impressive. I think Alvin has benefited a ton from Player/Coach Rondo, but regardless, to rebound from an injury to a player averaging 26/12 like this is almost unheard of. They've done a great job

He’s stated as much many times and every coach he has had (save for Carlisle) has commented on how he will be a coach one day. He will go straight to coaching when he retires.

And, although it happened well before Demps/Gentry, I hope this team can learn from the previous mistake of letting Tyson Chandler walk after 2008. The entire team cashed it in after that.

Keep this core together at all costs.

2 things we have to hope for with Boogie. First, we obviously want him to be able to come back slowly and 100% (maybe late December?) Secondly, we need him to step his pace up to play with this team. It's obvious that it works. Hopefully, Boogie can comeback conditioned to run at or near AD's pace.

Demps has always done a solid job finding, low-to-mid level guys that can help out. Trading has been pretty solid. Even though the Asik trade was a big blunder.

Signing FA's is a weakness for him. He tends to overpay most players that come to New Orleans

Gentry put himself in a position to win by surrounding himself with a great staff and convincing everyone to work together. Think about it, he's got Darren Erman and Chris Finch (not to mention getting Rondo who's like a 3rd assistant coach). Then it takes a lot of humility & wisdom on Gentry's part to set aside your ambitions & goals and recognize and accentuate other's coach's & player's strengths. And while we've criticized Gentry's rotations at times and lack of TO's, he's proved that he can make some very effective in-game adjustments

The biggest thing for me is that I think both guys are giving us stability going into the future
