No, someone can't buy the Pels and then say "hey I'm going to move the team to Bogalusa. Lol

Might be the very thing the pelicans need to turn it around.

Trying to look at glass half full. NOT EASY.

Not a good look

LOL no it would never move to Bogalusa and I’ve never seen a Pelican there.

Al Davis sued the NFL when the NFL tried to block the move from Oakland to LA decades ago and won, same would happen if NBA tried to block a move. That said with a franchise worth nearly $3B any move will be a more profitable location and desirable location for FAs than NOLA and give the Pels a real chance to succeed.

Every contract has an escape clause, many franchises have moved or sued to move and ultimately do.

Give me examples of that happening. Usually it has to do with new stadiums. Lauschs is not going to sell it to a group who wants to move the team.

Why the hell would we want a better city to represent our city team? Do you know how dumb you sound right now? These two could’ve left after Katrina and didn’t.

And somewhat hard to believe. I have known some people within the staff and have been there many times. Players always seem to have free access whenever they need it. Unless something changes last season, that seems very odd.

If you think Lauschka is going to choose an owner who wants to move outside of the state you’re wrong

A group from Vancouver approaches the Pelicans and offers 4B for the team, with an agreement to give the city/state 3 years to complete a new stadium deal or they can relocate. Or a local group offers 2.5B with an agreement to keep the team local for at least 10 years without a new stadium requirement.

Which one does he pick?

There are going to be many potential buyers, including private equity groups. I am sure many would keep the team in the city. But it comes at a cost. The city has to compete to keep it. They have to generate more income. They need a new stadium plus other income streams. They are making less than 300M/year. It's near the bottom of the league, it has to grow.

Pelicans and Saints are not running at a lost by the way

No they are not. They make money. They can just make more.

Spot on and this is going to happen. Lauscha isn’t walking from over $1B to keep the team here when much better markets like Vancouver, Seattle, Tampa, Raleigh, Virginia Beach, Nashville, etc are interested.

Lauscha doesn't get to to pocket the money. Lauscha has to follow Gayle's wishes. Your active rooting for the team to leave New Orleans is weird. Where do you live?

He is representing a trust. He has to make the best decisions that benefit the trust. He can take her wishes into account. But he can't make reckless financial decisions that loses money.

There are avenues to keep the team. People just need to be realistic and come to grips with the situation. It is competitive and NO can't just keep the team no matter what. They have to sell themselves. They can throw all the clauses they want in a contract, all that goes out the window once money comes into play.

I don't want the team to move. I am hoping a group comes with a great plan to enhance and grow the market. It's more than viable. Our leadership now isn't doing that. Just look at the TV deal this year. That's beyond irresponsible..

The team isn't leaving under her. That's the laziest take on this board & Saints

No way it will be three years to revamp the stadium. He takes the 2.5 billion if he has to. ALL the money is going back towards the city, not a trust fund.

quote:

Lauscha said a lease extension would tie the Saints to New Orleans long term, even if ownership were to change hands, because the NFL has a policy against teams breaching a lease agreement to switch markets.

Lauscha also said a favorable lease agreement would make it more attractive for a future owner to want to stay in New Orleans. "I want to make sure that we keep the teams here," Benson added. "I want them to stay in New Orleans forever."

Personally, I don’t think there’s any way both the NFL and NBA let the teams leave the city. It’s just so profitable for both leagues to have All Star and Super Bowls in New Orleans. It’s why the league wouldn’t let Benson move the Saints to San Antonio after Katrina and the NBA jumped in to took over the team for Shinn until Benson took over. They make to much money to let them leave.

Yeah, that's the only reason that we have teams: New Orleans is an elite tourist destination. Fans of other teams want to visit New Orleans.

It was an even more elite tourist destination when the Jazz hit the eject button, and a much better city and business climate as well.

That alone won’t be enough to save the teams, you have to stop electing woke Latoya types.

If the team decides to blow it all up in a year or two, giving up those assets will look really bad. With the roster being so unstable, those picks have to be heavily protected and the team has to be willing to take back some bad contracts as well. There isn't a lot of paths out of his contract but Klutch has to make it work for us if he wants out now.

Honestly, I think people are placing way too much emphasis on the Pelicans part of his tough year. How much of his trip back home was communicated with the front office? Remember, this is a team that Zion ghosted for most of a season, so they may have been a little sensitive to another player leaving the team during major rehab work.

The biggest issue is a current player has no business going on a podcast to talk shite about his employer in any way. That has to be addressed at some point, because the locker room is currently arse.

I've heard the Destroya described as many things, but I've never considered her woke. That said, we have a Grifter-D running New Orleans while Grifter-Rs run the state and country.

The two main guys who constantly bash the city of New Orleans (Golidlocks and Ghost of Bristow) each refuse to divulge their location. Because they know that as crappy as they think New Orleans is, they know that their hometown is way crappier.

Its a total loser, cop out move. They get to take pot shots without any fear of return fire.
