quote:

"I'm really, really Grateful we didn't trick this up, find a way to win 50 games and win one round of the playoffs and convince ourselves were better than we are. We didn't set false expectations for ourselves. We are not good enough right now, and we know it," Griffin said.

1 season later, and basically this exact scenario is playing out. We'll see if Griff makes any big time shake ups and lives up to his word...
quote:

"27 teams would trade their roster for ours and our draft picks for theirs," Griffin said.

So...how many more years we gotta wait to be good enough to avoid the play in with this top 4 roster and assets we have?
quote:

"If I'm a fan and David Griffin comes back up here next year and says, yeah, you know we just gotta get better, I'm gonna be pissed off. We've gotta get better right now. We've gotta learn from everything we didn't do properly and make that mean something," Griffin said.
Well Grff, we are here. And we are 2 games away from being HERE and in complete panic mode, and rightfully so.

Ball's in your court, Griff.

I can almost promise you he’ll use the BI late injury as an excuse. He’ll also blame a lot of this on so called growing pains and it was only Zion/BI first season healthy together. The guy is a master of shite excuses.

Also we won’t win one round of the playoffs either lol.

You damn sure know he's going to blame it on what he'll call an "outlier" of a season and tell us we would have been the #3 seed last season. And then continue to blame injuries for our demise. Wash, rinse, and repeat.

To be fair, we did get better, which is what I expect him to say

Yes we went from 9 seed to 7 seed in play-in.

Thunder went from 10 seed to number one. Wolves went from play-in to 2 seed. These were teams technically behind us the past couple years in timelines and have surpassed us. Spurs and rockets will be next to pass us.

I'm sure he will, but we missed the playoffs last season, and we are staring down doing the same thing this season.

Yeah nobody is believing that bs.

You lost to Memphis twice with a healthy ja, who will be back next year healthy.
Houston is growing rapidly like OKC did.
San Antonio is 1-2 years away from being a playoff contender.

In reality the only difference was having a relatively healthy team for much for the season. We improved by 7 games but we were on that same kind of pace before Williamson went down last year.

Gayle says she gets it. Heres another contract extension.

He’s a politician, plain and simple. Not going to take any big risks that could jeopardize his job security.

But older teams like the Lakers, Warriors and Clippers are on their way down, not up so it kind of balances out.

2 of those 3 teams are play in teams. I'm sure there's enough young teams in the west that can take that Mantle.

I’m not sure this is the case, really. Griffin has made broad sweeping changes in staff before.

It kinda is....normally 49 wins and you are safely in the playoffs.

quote:

here's where a West team going 49-33 would've finished after the previous six 82-game seasons:
3rd (2022-23)
Tied for 5th (2021-22)
Tied for 6th (2018-19)
Tied for 3rd (2017-18)
6th (2016-17)
5th (2015-16)
In other words, 49 wins has virtually been a top-6 lock

We are obviously stuck with Griff/ Willie. So my main question is after two back to back unsuccessful seasons, will they “ run it back”a third time with the same team?…

Griff placed the team in salary cap hell by extending CJ and Larry. There is minimal salary flexibility to improve next year. Any improvements have to come from the draft , Z and Dyson.
The Portland trade will haunt the Pels. Griffin attempted to rush the development to save his azzzzz. The fan base has been lied to by Griffin especially about Gayle's willingness to pay the tax.

But it's not really fair to assume this is a 49 win team in other seasons.

The bottom of the league was unusually worse than usual, so odds are we and others don't massa 49 wins in a normal season, and it's your typical 45 ish win season.

Wouldn't you rather still have Hart and not CJ?

CJ has been well worth his salary, it's really not close.

I feel like you're living in a world where you think Giannis or someone of that caliber would actually have any chance in hell of being traded to the Pelicans.

Our overall health is also an outlier this season. It's terrifying to me to think they could be running it back next year because we won 49 games.
