Situations matter in professional sports. I don’t lose sleep over Wood because he would have never developed like that here. First, if he was still here, we would have still picked Hayes at 8. They fell in love with his potential. He would have never gotten the minutes to develop here.

Remember, he sat for most of the season in Detroit and only got to play after they went into full tank mode. He scored for what was one of the three worst teams in the NBA for ~20 games. He parlayed that into a big contract on a team completely stripped of offensive talent outside of Harden. It’s been 3 games, he’s playing with one of the best facilitators in the game, and they are 1-2. I’m just saying Jaxon Hayes would look a lot better if he was only expected to catch lobs from harden and no one cared about his defense.

I’m happy for Wood. Those stories are fun. But it’s been a total of less than 25 games in this little run he is on. I don’t think any Pels fan should lose sleep over this. We have issues to fix but as has been said we have a war chest of assets to get it done. No front office bats .1000.

Would he though?

Everyone here thought he was “better than expected” last year in gentry’s up and down system. So yeah, he would look much better with five sets of eyes on Harden and rim running.

Houston is also giving up 125ppg so obviously one one cares about defense. If you are going to compare players, you have to put the same expectations on both. Jaxon wouldn’t be putting up Wood’s numbers but I think everyone is smart enough to realize it is two completely different situations with two completely different set of expectations.

I know what I said, I said every backup should have to compete for playing time and their role and have nothing guaranteed unless you are Hart or Redick.

I don't think either of those are Jahlil Okafor.

And hence now the fourth or filth time someone has had to explain that we guaranteed money to five bigs(Zion, Melli, Hayes, Favors, and partially guaranteed to Okafor), while holding out on picking up the 850,000 one year for Wood, and as a result Wood’s agent, likely having strong inclinations other teams would pick him up off waivers where he would have a better chance to fairly compete for meaningful playing time, went to Griff to discuss and Griff ultimately cut him. Signaling, obviously, he at the time thought his guys were better and Wood unworthy of similar commitments.

I really just do not understand why some of you have this incessant need to defend Griffin over everything? He made the wrong call, his people didn’t recognize the talent they had and failed to lock him up when he was under their control. It would seem Griff even believes their talent evaluation needs to get better since they brought in Gar Forman, but a vocal group of fans around here somehow seem to think otherwise, despite these clear and obvious examples where it’s true.

I have no trouble admitting that. I also don't think it's a very big deal, because I don't think that Wood is all that good.

The only thing incessant is 3 people incessantly sucking Christian Wood's dick. Nobody thinks Griffin is infallible, neither is Christian Wood. Get the frick over it.

It was never a matter of talent.

If the casual/hardcore fan can see a guy with a shitload of upside, you can bet the GM can too

They’ve played 3 games on the season and are 1-2. He is a stat filler on mediocre teams to date.
They were missing half of their team the first two games due to covid. Barely had enough players to play.

He’s averaging 25 pts, 9.3 reb, and 2.3 assists with a TS% of 63%. He’s a +13.4 on/off.

He can certainly improve on defense, but he just turned 25. He has time.

I’ve been very impressed with him so far. Legit looks like Anthony Davis on offense with his ability to play both inside and out, catch lobs, handle the ball, and run the floor.

That miserable abortion of a comment was completely lacking in proper theology and geometry.

Only one side of this conversation seems to be incapable of just accepting opinions and moving on.

Y’all in here on New Years once again unable to control your emotions, just having to dogpile and go after posters for wrong think. What does that say, honestly?

I’d like to see someone go toe to toe with me on bird law is all I’m saying.

I’d prefer to avoid duels though.

Some of you have the most intense man crushes on Wood than I've seen since Mike Greenberg used to drool over New York Jets quarterbacks.

He's never shown promise in the past 2.5 years. He's not gonna be an anchor on defense, maybe average at best, but dude stat chases like Whiteside.

I think he's very talented and gifted offensively, I wish we had him, but I'll say that there's no reason the Pelicans should pay him 3/41 to be the #3 big. No way. Now Houston is a different picture
