Extend and trade is much more limited in the proposed CBA.
I'm guessing that's likely in part thanks to LeBron? Either way, CP is going to leave by season's end...may as well get something for him and trade him now or at deadline. Teams are normally more desperate at deadline.

His brand value shot itself in the arse with his my way or the highway routine.
would you rather him lead on the hornets and go into FA telling everyone how much he loves it here, only to leave anyway?
i, personally, would rather know in advance so we can deal him
he doesn't want to be in new orleans
he wants to be in a big city on a possible contender
he's not an a-hole (short of half-assing it), and it's not personal. he played out his contract (other than that period of half-assing)

No, this is what became of the so-called Melo Rule.

If he were willing to sign a big extension, that ups his value tremendously doesnt it?
All signs point to him not cooperating, however.
This leak said that the Knicks were the first choice but he's open to an extend and trade with multiple teams including the Clippers. Assuming that's true I think the minimum you get is
CP3 + Ariza for Aminu, Bledsoe, Kaman and Pick

You don't trade him w/out getting Eric Gordon in return. A deal with Gordon + Jordan for Paul as the focal points would be good for both teams.

I don't hate Chris Paul...yet. However, his lack of effort and manipulating the Hornets are shitty and makes him really hard to like.

Get Gordon and that Wolves pick. The end.
Why does everyone want Gordon?
Gordon is not that good.

He's quite good and would at least help fill the void sans CP3.

An undersized 2, who can't play point, but I'm guessing you want to put him there?
He can shoot. But he can't get to the rim, can't rebound, and can't defend.
Why should be enamored with him again? Especially enough to give up a franchise player for him?
Everyone bitches about CP3's "effort," yet he still ranked as the top PG in the league last year in PER, over the MVP winner and everyone's darling, Russell Westbrook.

what do you suggest? infinite contracts?

If we get Jordan and Gordon plus a top 5 pick to go with what would be our pretty high pick now you have a scorer, an inside player, and two lottery picks to build a team. Much better than what we've had. Our scorer has been an undersized 4 whose range is 17 feet

Would be the only good part of that trade.
Gordon/Jordan make this team a lot worse. They aren't anything to build on. Basically a 6th man scorer and an average, at best, big.

whoa
gordon is no superstar, but he's a lot better than this. jordan is a banger at the 5
top 5 picks in the NBA don't really mean anything. you have to have a lot of luck to turn them into superstars

Have you watched the Hornets? A scorer at the guard position and an athletic big make us worse? I don't get where you're coming from with this.

He's a good young player with upside, probably the 2nd best player on the Clippers.
If you can get a good young player, plus a likely lottery pick, tank, have your own lottery pick, you have a nucleus to build around.
That would be the point.
Trading for Rondo or Bynum would be worthless. You get a player that has likely reached his potential, and you don't get a lottery pick.

Unfortunately NBA players as a group are hugely unappreciative of microbrews and food carts. @davies_nick Is Portland an option for CP3?
