Maybe the franchise is part of the problem.

He also played professionally and had a full team around him making sure he was healthy/in full shape.

Here is a list of teams by revenue in 24/25 (most recent I could find)

As you can see, we were last in the league at $302M. That year our team's payroll was $173M (12th in the league).
I just don't correlate spending with winning. Not on player's directly anyway. There are so many better ways to improve the team/organization by investing in other areas. I'd rather be last every year in payroll and spending that extra $30-40M on better facilities, updates, staff, etc..

The Spurs were gifted a number 1 pick while they still had all nba level player on the roster.
Then they were gifted 3 top 4 picks in a row before the league changed the rules so no one else could do it.
The Pels had to lose their best player to get the #1 pick. Then they had to lose the guy they took with that pick in order to get another #1 pick.
In no way are those two situations the same

People just ignoring this just to be miserable. Like imagine how different things would be if that last lottery ball hit in the pelicans favor in the Cooper Flagg lottery. When your a team not signing premier free agents and trades are starting to become limited because players are having more say in their destination, the draft is the way for building. But of course you need luck. Even when we had luck, we got injury prone AD and Zion(lol). Other teams get Wemby, Cade, and Edwards.
