Who would you prefer if we made a trade for a Center? What would you give up?

Player/ Potential Cost

Wendell Carter: 2nds

Jakob Poetl: 2nds-(protected) 1st

Daniel Gafford: (protected) 1st

Myles Turner: (protected) 1st

Jarrett Allen: 1st(s) or Herb

Jalen Duren: 1st(s), Poole, and/or Herb

Damontas Sabonis: 1st(s), Poole, and/ or Herb

I wouldn't take Poetl, Turner or Sabonis for nothing. Bad contracts.

Pistons aren't trading Duren.

Carter isn't spectacular, but I don't know why Orlando would just dump him for seconds.

Given our coach has hands on experience with Wendell if they went out and got him, id be kinda excited.

I would love to have Gafford, Turner, or Allen. All 3 of those guys would make us a significantly better basketball team. It would depend on acquisition cost but I'd be very interested in all 3.

I would think Poole and a pair of seconds for Turner is a win for both teams.

Pels save money and get a center

Bucks get off tge two additional years of Turner. Bucks will want to be a team that takes bad contracts for picks for a few years.

Ending up with Turner/ Mathurin using Poole/ Hawk/ 2nds would be a heist.

I don't get the love for Turner around here. He was almost unplayable in the Pacers' finals series two years ago. Last year his defense dropped off and all his stats declined. He's entering his 12th year in the league and will only get worse.

If he was only signed for this year, sure, swap him for Poole. But no way would I take on the next two years of Turner's contract.

I feel that has been so exaggerated but listen to what you are saying. Turner started every game through the playoffs, including all seven NBA finals games just over a year ago. I think it’s fair for people to think he can help the weakest position on our 26 win team.

But per 36 minutes last year he shot 38.3% from 3 on 7.2 attempts and 2.2 blocks. And the year before he shot 39.6% on 6.5 attempts and 2.4 blocks.

My thing is he immediately prevents opposing teams from putting their center in the paint for Zion. And as the roster stands today, if Missi twists his ankle like he did in the first game last year, our whole season is over.

We need to be hanging on to every first we own like it’s the antidote to the poison we just drank.

There is no center available who is changing our destiny this year.

Securing a playoff spot and being competitive in the playoffs would be huge for the team, fans, etccc.

(1) protected 1st is 100% worth building a playoff team/ culture within the franchise.

You also want to see what works and what doesn't. If getting Myles Turner assures us that a stretch big who can shoot 3's is what's needed going forward then at a worst we aren't wasting 5+ more years on rim runners and bigs that camp in the paint.

12 pts/ 6 reb/ 2 blcks and spacing is worth a protected 1st for this team. And that can be closer to 15/8/3.

What else is worth a draft pick if not upgrading our worst position on both offense and defense?

If we were blowing it up then I'd agree but if you plan to be competitive then you go get the best players you can get with fair value assets.

I will reiterate that the ONLY time the Pelicans/ Hornets were playoff teams included:

Tyson Chandler
Anthony Davis
Demarcus Cousins
Jonas Val

You say no center will change our destiny while Centers have been the literal fulcrum of success for our teams.

Agree with the Turner assessment. He is a poor rebounder a good shot blocker from the help position but overall just an average defender. He is a good 3 pt shooter at around 39%. For the cost and his age i wouldn't give up assets to take on a big contract for a declining player with a huge trade kicker. Eazy Pass

Of course

There is no center available that makes this a possibility.

We are very far away from being a competitive playoff team.

It’s far more likely we deal Trey, Zion, and Herb at the deadline than winning ~45 games this season.

I think the perception of where fans think that pick lands plays a huge factor into this.

If you view this as losing a Top 5-10 pick for 2 years of Turner then sure that makes sense. If its Lottery protected first and theres a chance that players is Hayes, Hawk, or a project that needs 3 years to develop then I think y'all are dead wrong.

If we are talking current need, value, and overall positive influence on the team then yes Myles Turner is more valuable than a 15-30 pick that may not do shite until 2030.

Can't let past trades influence the future. Leave your feelings about Dyson, Murray, Queen, and BI trades at the door. We didn't have the assets and abilities we have now.

Well yeah if you think we are forever doomed and there's no hope then it makes perfect sense to never attempt to upgrade.

Surely y'all aren't going to deny upgrade attempts while simultaneously bitching about being worse because we didn't do it.

Why add pieces when you can just complain all season that we don't have them.

We should change the team name to the New Orleans Rino's with how much y'all love bitching about not being good enough and then refusing opportunities to do anything about it.

Don’t be emotional.

I’m saying that giving up first round picks in an attempt to go from 26 to 37 wins at best is not a winning strategy long term.

Nobody is saying forever doomed or don’t try to upgrade.

I’m saying don’t give up assets for Myles Turner in 2026 with the notion that it’ll make a big difference this season - it won’t.

You do realize I laid out several legit reasons why it makes sense and would be great for the team beyond just getting Turner?

Meanwhile everything you just said is based on emotion and without a single shred of defense other than blindly saying "it won't help us and won't make a difference".

You are also saying that we shouldn't upgrade because we aren't good enough to upgrade which is hilarious.

Did he play 36 minutes per game?
Would he play 36 minutes per game here?

Has to be one of the dumbest meaningless stats in basketball.

His normal stats are just fine to use. 5.4 3PA at 38.3%, and the last 2 years are the only times he's ever shot more than 5 per game in his career.

He's an old 30. The time to get him was 3 years ago.
And I think he's an overrated defender. Just b/c he has a good bit of blocks doesn't make him a good defender.
7' tall, 250lbs, and he's never had a season where he averaged 8 rebounds.

quote:

not really. He isn't a quick shooter at all, and he isn't a huge threat if you run him off the line, which means you can help off of him and still get back to defend him more often than not. Defenders stick to Trey b/c he can shoot quickly and shoot from anywhere, but also b/c if you run him off the line he's going to get to the goal and dunk it. Myles Turner is not KAT. He's not driving to the goal with aggressive strength and finishing.
ANd i'm not saying he woudln't help with spacing, b/c obviously he would, but it's not nearly as much as you'd think it is.

Missi is a better defender than Turner, and I don' think it's a real close discussion, and if we had a guy playing the 4 who would actually defend, and could actually do something on offense other than barreling into the lane for left handed layups, then Missi's lack of 3 point shooting wouldn't be a big deal.
Missi's rim protection was elite last year. He gave up 53.1% on shots from less than 6', which was 10th best in the entire league. Karlo was at 55.1%. Turner was at 59%. There were 24 centers in the league who were better at that than Turner. DQ was at 59.5%.

The whole problem here is Zion. He has to have a 5 who can shoot the 3 at a high clip while also defend at an elite level. Those guys aren't easy to find at all. Missi, Karlo, and DQ are not bad defenders, and there's plenty of stats to back that up. Zion however is not a good defender.

Look at the 4 most played lineups last year

Zion/Bey/Herb/Trey/DQ
Zion/Bey/Fears/Trey/DQ
Fears/Bey/Trey/Herb/DQ
Zion/Murray/Bey/Herb/Trey

DRtg of 1 of those was 107.3. which would be good enough to be 3rd best in the league. Guess which lineup that is?
Those first 2 lineups have a -4.9 and -19.3 NetRtg. That special one had a +11.0 NetRtg.
Zion at the 5 was a good lineup last year. +9.8 NetRtg and a decent 113.6 Drtg.

The 5th most played lineup was
Fears/Bey/Herb/McGowens/DQ
So McGowens took Herb's spot and they went from a +11 to a -17 NetRtg, and a terrible 130.8 Drtg.

The 6th most played lineup was
Zion/Bey/Herb/Trey/Missi
+6.7 NetRtg with a 111.8 Drtg

It's clear that Zion and DQ did not play well together, and it's also clear that DQ is capable of being a good defender where as Zion has yet to ever show the slightest bit of that.

TLDR
Stop trying to find the unicorn center to play with Zion.
Just get rid of Zion and bring in a cheap big body 5 like a Day'Ron Sharpe, and focus on more 3&D wing players. Good rim protection starts with good perimeter defense and good team defense, something Zion is too lazy to be good at.

Yes, a cheap center is what we need haha.

Because if there's anything we learned the last few years its that having Dyson Daniels, Herb, and a shite center really helped against rim protection.

Why are you making this about Zion and not about maximizing the team? Any upgrade is maximizing the team as a whole and not just Zion. Its not about putting the perfect person next to Zion, its about putting the perfect person on the court with the current team, scheme, and rotations we have.

There is far, FAR more evidence that our core will not be a playoff team than there is evidence we will suddenly flip the switch and win 40+ games

A 26-win team making a leap like that when they had average injury luck and added basically zero new pieces save for a bench player and a recently fired coach is pretty unprecedented in NBA history.

If we defy the odds and start hot and we are approaching the deadline with a fun team who is missing a center, sure, let’s see what’s out there.

Giving away first round picks for old and/or average to below average centers in a year where our over/under is a hard 28.5 is how losers stay losers. We will need that pick more later than we need Myles Turner now.
