It's hard to talk rationally about herb because he's so embraced by the fanbase, including me. But my clinical side thought maybe his value reached its peak after he made first team all NBA on defense last year. When I read the Hawks were hot to get him, I even thought we maybe should use Herb to solve our center problem and swap him for Okongwu + assets and slide Dyson into his role.

In retrospect you could make the case that that would have been the right move and that the best future for the Pels is Murray/scoring/two way SG/ Trey/Zion/Missi.

Again, I love Herb, but I'm not sure he's a starter on a contending team in today's all-offense NBA. Counter-argument: Lou Dort starts for OKC...

So, I'm just gonna concentrate on the Pels landing Flagg in the upcoming draft...& he turns out to be as great as I think he might be...& he makes all the other players "better"...which is what a truly great Batman is suppose to do.

Were not.

Trey/Zion/CJ is more than enough to keep you in the 6-10 Lottery range even with as many games the Pelicans have lost.

As long as Zion continues to play our lottery chances will decrease (as they should).

For the folks who think Zion is getting traded

He's the best player on the team by a meteoric mile and enhances the second best player on the team (Trey) to beyond All-Star level.

With a better coach/health both are playing on the All-Star team next year.

Herb will only be used in a trade for Zion insurance, aka another close to All Star level talent in the event Zion misses games (as usual)

Murray, Jones, Murphy, and Missi are core guys that can support a star. They are all on reasonable contracts, have length, and play defense.

Im only offloading Herb if im using him with a CJ or BI contract to get an All-Star back.

Y'all are deluded into thinking you're going to upgrade BI or CJ. We are sellers without options. You are downgrading for draft capital and/or young potential role players at this point.

True. However, he is about as locked to the team as Zion is.

What are they really going to get for Hawkins though?

Nothing, his value is gone.

He's hanging on to hope that he cam maybe...maybe be a very end of rotation guy at this point. Those dudes will have no value.

He's our worst defensive player by far, and he's supposed to make up for that by being a knockdown shooter, but he can't make shots.

In a fairy tale world where we're a healthy team, he's played himself right out of the rotation at this point. I get the idea that you gotta let young guys take their lumps and so on and so forth...but 1.5 years in you can't be THIS bad and still get minutes.

---Now...I'll be your huckleberry...how about the Mavs offer Gafford and a first round pick for Herb? Too little?...Too much?

Remember the other night, when Gafford went 12-13 & dropped 27 points & 12 rebounds on us...well...he just now went 12-15 with 31 points and 15 rebounds & 7 blocked shots vs the Hornets. Gotta feelin' the Mavs are trying to "feature" Gafford in preparation of trading him.

Doubt they have a serious shot at Herb...since we think so highly of him...but you never know. In the end, I expect the Mavs to "settle" on Thybulle, who they tried very hard to sign...a coupla years ago.
