Instead of enjoying being back in the playoffs and over .500, all I see are doom and gloom posts. What sense would it make to fire Dell or Gentry now? Has this franchise learned anything from the timing of Monty's firing? Maybe getting in the playoffs warrants losing your job with this team. Here's a novel idea: enjoy the season, we're having a good one.

People have been ready to fire both for a while, they see any misstep or loss as confirmation that they were right and telling others that you’re right and they’re wrong is what makes the interwebz go round.

They can make it to the playoffs and I'll still want both gone.

Dell cannot build a roster properly for any coach. We have 15mil of useless money and have overpaid for another. Let's not talk about the bad decisions further.

Gentry is average at best and needs shooters but doesn't have them. Questionable decision making during games. I just don't think he's good enough, but he hasn't had a fair crack either.

TBH, I was thinking about this very subject today. I think we’re so used to being terrible we’re expecting the wheels to fall off somehow/somewhere. Rondo has looked awesome since coming back. We could be in for a nice stretch.

We’re still in it 17 games in and not in a hole that seems ridiculous to climb out of, so that’s nice. The problem is most people realistically notice we are in cap hell, so the ceiling on this Gentry-led, Demps-built team is only as high as the Herculean efforts of Davis/Cousins will take us.

Still, you do have a point about this bunch. They/we can be grumpy at times. It is a little annoying to see so much bitching after wins, but we just got terrible news in Asik trying to return today, so I don’t expect much relief from the whining short of actually going on a winning streak and beating better teams.

The team is 9-8 despite having 2 of the top 10 players in the entire league

It seems to me we’re in better shape than usual this far into the season. I choose to enjoy it. We ain’t’ the Spurs or the Warriors.

You would think after how we did Monty. I mean will anyone be surprised when we get a 7 or 8 seed and fire Gentry if we go 0-4 in 1st round?

Monty lost his job in game 3. People always gloss over the fact we had an epic choke job in the playoffs that season that had fans irate and act like we “fired a coach after making the playoffs”. Plus from multiple accounts Monty gave a “him or me” ultimatum with Demps.

That game 3 was the second most deflating game I’ve been to live outside of game 7.

Williams didn't lose his job because of coaching. He lost his job when he challenged authority and tried to divide the front office.

This is madness. This is the timeline: Monty coaches the team to the playoffs, Monty is booed by home crowd, Pels are competitive in playoffs against Warriors, Monty gives an ultimatum (him or Dell), team fires Monty and hires Gentry, Pels miss playoffs for two years, Pels have 2 first team all-NBA players and currently in playoffs, the consensus on this board is it's time to fire the coach and GM.

Please note: Pels have 2 First team All-NbA Big Men, who are playing 40minutes plus a game. Seems to me like we should slow our pace down a bit to set up the offense. With the likes of Rondo and Jrue setting up shouldn't be that difficult. However, Gentry plays at a very fast pace, tiring those two big men out. Also creating more turnovers not sure what our per game T/O stat is but it cant be that great...I guess that's not coaching.

Side Note: Have you happened to notice the last second play calling from Gentry when it comes to a game tieing shot or winning? Get the ball to someone not AD and/or boogie and have them drive to the basket pull up jumper from about 16ft.

These are just some of the reasons, I will admit I was one to want Monty gone (somewhat didn't think he should get fired after we played GS), at this rate, I'll take him back. If gentry takes us to the playoffs that would be fabulous, however, can you really tell me Gentry is the coach that will constantly make us better year in and year out. So we can compete for a title.

That’s the narrative, but don’t blow game 3 and I’m not sure the Pels could pull the trigger.

And we're not in the playoffs. It's November asswipe.

That said, I hope we win every game

it is amazing how quickly people either forget or want to forget.

go back to December 2014. every other thread here was about firing Monty. the PTAO was invented during that time. the Pels lost games to Process Sixers and awful Knicks in one week. once they got a live wing in Pondexter, and he played above expectations, things started to click. they had a hot final 3 months, going 27-19.

did Monty deserve to get fired? maybe not after that stretch. but consensus was he wasnt the guy to take the team to the next level...sounds familiar. Monty dealt with injuries and a weird roster his entire tenure....sounds familiar.

this isnt a praise Gentry post, more that people will bitch to bitch because losses make feelings be felt. at this point, the Pels are on pace for about 45 wins even with obligatory injuries and poor roster construction.

that would put them around the top end of most pre-season projections. yet some are screaming to immediately fire the coach, who is on pace to have the best season in years with a key piece on an expiring contract. that is nuts.

given the context, we should be pleased with the results so far while recognizing there are still plenty of things they can do to improve.

I'm quite pleased

Oddly yes there are some similarities between the 2 seasons(remember when we started Babbitt and the revolving door of backup PGs including Jimmer?)

The main issue is a lack of backup bigs but at least they've found competency at the wing with millers play.
