Eh The Pels gave the city a team 1 win away from a 3 seed in the West last season, and in return we gave them back below average attendance

It’s true

Everyone blows this a little out of proportion. Our attendance isn’t good but it isn’t bad. Some of these cities don’t even have football teams or other major franchises to support.

You can’t tease people for 1 year at a time every 5 years with middle of the road playoff results. I don’t think most people realize just how much of a commitment it is to keep good seats and continuous discounts etc. You get roped in and it’s kind of silly to blame people for not getting any entertainment for their money in March-June 4/5 years.

This franchise has to wait half the year on fan support, every year.

That’s an undeniable fact.

showing up for playoff series does not equate to what you just said

Winning is what gets attention, sustaining it is what earns you a fan base.

Maybe you aren’t old enough to remember but I was there with the darker days of the Saints. When you could get lower section tickets for practically free. When Aaron Brooks was throwing backwards passes and Jim Haslett was more concerned with fricking cheerleaders than solidifying a competent locker room. When we gave up everything to bring in a running back based on decades old notions of the game to appease a gambling addict over the hill has been(who I respect enormously in the grand scale of things). When Venturi passed through and Mora lost his touch.

Winning gets fans attention in New Orleans, sustaining it builds a fan base. And this is true in Philly or Golden State, Miami or Denver.

The Pelicans like to win occasionally, they don’t like to sustain it with regularity. And when the other game in town has endeared itself by showing it able to do so, to reach the highest peak, the Pelicans at a minimum need a product that people can rely on to be entertaining, as is the case for most markets. If you don’t see that I don’t know what to tell you Lester.

What has this franchise given the city of New Orleans and it’s fans to get excited about? One competitive 2nd round series in 16 years? That’s a fact.

What's Minny given Minneapolis? One good series of KG?

We're not the only ones

Stop comparing us to outside factors and start looking within

The Twolves barely average more fans than the pels. What’s your point? If this team was 27-13 right now, we’d have great crowds.

ETA: you’re the one that brought up outside factors lmao.

I said if this team gave this city a consistent winner everyone would be shocked how well it was supported.

And they have lower attendance than us, what’s your point?

For that matter so do the Grizzlies. And so does Brooklyn, the buzz city everyone thought would blow out the doors regardless. A population nearly 6x the size of New Orleans...Bottom of the league. Despite a scrappy, yet not winning team.

In fact, get back to me when the Pelicans still average this level of attendance when they manage to have the same sustained level of competitiveness the Grizzlies have had in the last decade.

We could go back to Bum Phillips too dipshit.

Point still stands and I dont hear you making any sort of counterpoint.

Loyalty and building a sustained fanbase is earned in most small markets, not given. The Pels have done nothing in over a decade to build that and maintain it.

Philly went from worst to best, it took three seasons of upward momentum and sustained buzz to reach that....And they have 4x the population. The Nuggets took three seasons of steadily rising and into a top 5 team to finally break the bottom of the league in attendance again. They are having a magical run and still only 15th in the league. The last time they were in that space was in the Melo/Billups runs....Where check this, NOLA beat them in attendance during our own run.

But like keeps happening in the AD era, instead of maintaining and growing on a successful run, the team backslides the next season and the season after. Sapping enthusiasm and momentum.

Ummm how about the existence of the franchise itself? One of 30 in North America....but don’t pretend this city hasn’t had star players to watch.

New Orleans doesn’t care about basketball. Much less the NBA.

Do you support them? Are you a season ticket holder? If so, you are doing your job. If not, stop complaining.

Did you forget when I explained that half of New Orleans is dirt poor and can barely afford food but you wonder why our NBA arena isn't packed? Then you agreed and now you're back complaining about a small poor city with a extremely popular NFL team in town that can't fill its NBA arena. You gotta calm down son. I live in Denver and there's twice the metro population and 14x the income yet they aren't leading the league in attendance. Plus their team is winning.

The city has shown over and over that when the team wins, they show up. When you've been to the playoffs a handful of times over it's time in the city, it makes things a little difficult.

The Hawks were winning 60 games a few years ago and still struggled to fill the arena. To say Pels fans are equivalent to the Marlins shows once again that Bill has no idea outside of the 5 big market teams he cares about.

How the hell did a thread that should be about players to trade AD for turn into a thread about NOLA doesn’t deserve a team on this board? I could see it going that way in the MSB but this shouldn’t happen here.
