Bench Jonas, Start Jax
Posted by PappaSwolio

Tired of watching 6’11 Jonas hunch over on defense and play small. At least Jax can run the floor and make some entertaining dunks that fires up the team

It’s our year again?

team sports are great. Jonas is the better player by most metrics but the team may still be better off with Jax

I don’t know about benching Jonas for Hayes long term. But, I’m definitely riding with Hayes rest of this game while he’s hot.

How many times in 4 seasons have we fallen for the random good Jax game?

Against a team with no legit bigs? It’s almost like Willie should be changing his lineups based on the matchups.

I’d rather resign Jax and ship Jonas out. Rotate Billy/Jax on matchups

I'd rather let Jax walk and trade Jval.

Hayes should get the bulk of the post time here on out. He’s prone to head scratchers but is Pels only big that can move his feet. Additionally, he finishes offensively at a very good rate. Glad Coach Green reinserted him in the 4th. Naysayers will point out the inconsistencies but he was key in the 4th. thwarting Mavs raining threes from the perimeter.

Unless you plan to keep Hayes at the end of the bench on minimum salary, I think it's time for a reboot

I say start either depending on matchups....but Billy needs to never touch a fricking basketball for the city of New Orleans ever again. All that bitching he was doing about playing time....just to get chances and blow dunks at the rim and play bad defense.

We play the Thunder and Blazers this weekend. Neither with a real center. Both very athletic. If you throw out Jonas to start, we are setting ourselves up to fail IMO.
But hey, maybe I’m jinxing things and Jonas will go for 40. Who knows.

Playing these teams w/o a real center we really need to force it to Jonas down low when he does play.
He has the advantage. We just don’t get him the ball in those spots enough. Also he needs to be more offensively aggressive.

The problem is that JV often starts dribbling, and then the other team doubles and gets the steal.

Against the Blazers Hayes is averaging 15/4/3/2 on 80% shooting and against the Thunder 7/3/1/0 on 73% shooting. He had one game where he played 2 minutes against the Thunder and recorded no stats factored into that, so really averaging 10.5/4.5/1.5 against them.
Jonas is averaging 7/11/1/0 against the Blazers on 51% shooting. Against the Thunder he's averaging 10.7/8.3/1/0 on 60%.
IMO Hayes loses some rebounding but provides more scoring over the next two games. He should be getting some run this weekend.

My high school basketball coach would drill into the big men's head that "when in the land of the giants don't bring the ball down to where the ankle biters live." Someone needs to preach this to Jonas. He almost always brings the ball down, both on entry passes or after rebounds, and it makes him more prone to getting it stolen or his shot blocked.
