Pels are in the "Destined for top 6"

quote:

Why are we confident in them? There is so much talent on this Pelicans team, and they’ve had all this success while Brandon Ingram has missed a lot of time. The Pelicans are one of the top offensive and defensive teams in the NBA and are the only team that is top six on both ends of the floor. Willie Green is a very good leader so early in his head coaching career, and he has a ton of depth.

What could knock them out here? Sustaining success with a young team is not always easy to do, and there are some good teams (potentially) behind them right now. A healthy Dallas, Golden State and Phoenix squad could move up the ranks with a big stretch. The Clippers are always a threat. And maybe Sacramento remains scrappy enough to get there. New Orleans should be fine, but Ingram and Zion Williamson do miss a lot of time.

Should they make a move? Absolutely not. Let this squad cook and see how they settle after a great finish to last season and a great start to this season.

Phoenix

I think theyre a play in team this year. With Booker missing time and with Ayton and Monty not seeing eye to eye, thats a recipe for disaster. They are currently in 10th place at 21-23 and I would love for them to be our 1st round match up.

Our window starts this season. We're nowhere near a favorite to win the title.

Why would we not try to improve the team?

You always keep your options open, and you listen to any offer that comes your way. My concerns about making a move are we have had so few games with our team totally healthy are we even really sure what we need most? Is it another shooter or another big?? Or both?? Or neither?? Until I see our full squad out there, I’m somewhat hesitant to potentially mess up a great locker room. But again you need to entertain all offers and if something is too good to pass up you may have to do it.

Because you don't want to remove assets now that could be used later.

Losing Jaxson's 6.8mil, GT's 5.1mil for nothing might not be a big deal. But moving that + Kira's 4mil, graham's 11.5mil this year might put us in a hard bind that locks you into a single choice (which may or may not be the besst).

Whereas say next year, combining graham + kira +/- GT for a disgruntled player who wants to contend might be worthwhile.

This is an assumption that a better deal will come up later rather than sooner but I guess I don't understand that logic?

What if the better deal comes up before this deadline? Then we turn it down and never get a deal as good a that one. Why isn't that just as likely to happen?

That's the CJ trade to a tee. I don't think we wanted to move Josh but it made too much sense given the Blazers were blowing it up somewhat.

I think you stay pat unless a total game changer becomes available.

I think we should try and trade Billy and/or Graham for cash/2nd rd pick/player that we buyout to free up roster spots for the buyout market.

The Buyout market is an interesting option that’s normally not open to the Pels. If they can stay a top 4 seed though, maybe you could get someone you’d normally have to trade for, like a Josh Richardson.

Only team I could see needing/wanting Willy and able to give him minutes is the Nets because they don’t have a big man.

Would they be willing to part with Cam Thomas for Willy?

Would SA be willing to take on Grahams contract to get a young talent like Cam in a swap for Richardson?

I think there’s a couple possibilities to round out the bottom of the roster, one other guy I would look at is Tony Bradley on the Bulls, he’s out of their rotation and his per 36 numbers are solid. He’s only 25 and could likely be kept at a minimum deal for awhile

If it does, you take it... But if I told you lock 20mil into a player... Whats your pick?

That's the hard part, is I don't truly know. Idk if a true combo guard (Jordan Clarkson) or is 4/5 backup.

True, all good points.

I think Mailk Beasley is the best option in terms of fit and value in terms of what we'd have to give up.

I'm slowly warming up to Bojan Bogdanovic but obviously the ask will be high, he's a tad older than I'd like and a high salary. But he'd help us tremendously.
