Are we going to pursue Harrison Barnes? (This is based on nothing)

So I’ve known seen several tweets from various Pelicans media types mentioning Barnes as a possibility. Nothing insider just speculation. Yes this includes Mackel.

If we do pursue Barnes...how do you feel about it?

I am not a fan. I think he’s a better player than people give him credit for. Decent to good on both ends but has been vastly overpaid and not truly great at anything. Can play 3 or small ball 4 though.

What’s the max money and years you would pay him?

This seems redundant with the players already on the roster. I don’t think we want Ingram to be a 6th man.

Barnes could thrive on a team like this.
He’s been a really effective player for several years now and that shouldn’t change.
Plus he seems to be pretty smart

I’m sure the kings are going to want him back though for those same reasons. They have tons of space and can easily outbid us

Unless we can get Kawhi, I think we should stick with who we have at the 3-4

Only big FA targets should be D'lo or Brogdon, other than them pick up a backup PG like Collision, and a big like Dedmon

Speaking of Barnes, the guy has to be one of the luckiest players in the league today.

By every account he has failed to live up to his expectations that at one point had scouts putting him as the number one prospect coming into college. The next Kobe.

Then he lucks out onto a all time great championship Warriors team where granted, he was solid, was instrumental as a cog in that machine, but not ever spectacular. Benefiting from the gravity his teammates have to pull defenders away from.

So he cashed in with a huge overpay and inevitably fails to live up to that contract. Trending him to a much more modest contract the next go round.

But now he lucks into the most flush offseason since 2016 and his former team out with injuries means players like him are ripe to get overpaid once again.

no doubt
the contract he is going to sign with the kings will be bigger than I think we want to fool with for a role type guy

He's going to get too much from others, but Dallas loved him and said he was a true pro. sort of what we need.

Not at all. I saw Fletcher tweet it and then a few others. Didn’t even know he tweeted it until just now.

How about talk about Barnes instead?

IF the Pels spend big money and years this offseason, the guy I would keep an eye on is Harrison Barnes. Has a Gentry connection, fits what they want to do on offense and defense. Is a vet but not too old.

Just giving my personal opinion I don’t want Barnes at all. I am not a fan in the slightest. If we gave him 3/60 like Fletch mentioned I would MELT.

Didnt we have a chance to sign him with Gentry as our coach? We went with Moore and Hill instead, (another Dell disaster btw).
I remember reading Barnes would have been interested but we never called once free agency opened...

Not THAT high on Barnes(I think he's a solid player) but I really like the Satoransky/Dedmon proposals

and was cool about the trade

he’s a good player to have, kings know this also

He is a great player to have, just not at the rates he keeps lucking himself into.

I wouldn't want to commit to a 4 year deal at a high dollar value for most FAs out there. I feel like Barnes will be looking for more than a 2 year or so contract. We should be trying to get solid culture setting vets who also allow us to maintain flexibility cap-wise whenever Zion is ready to make the leap.
