HoopsHype posted an article about agents negotiating max contracts and how it’s not as seamless as it seems. Interesting read. May help provide some insight.

that sounded like lawyers trying to sound important, much like a real estate agent trying to tell you they deserve $18k to sell your $300k house.

There is nothing hard about signing a real max player to a max deal. It's that next tier of players, like Jrue, where agents are worth it.

Anyone could be AD's agent and he'll get the same thing no matter what b/c whatever he says he'll get.
Outside of Embiid's injury clause max contract, they seem pretty simple to get signed.

For a real max player, the conversation seems pretty simple.
Agent: AD wants a max deal
Pels: Not a problem
Agent: he wants 5 years
Pels: OK
Agent: He also wants a no trade clause
Pels: No. No one gets that anymore.
Agent: Ok then he wants a trade kicker
Pels: OK
Agent: he wants a massuese to massage him every Monday and Thursday, whether at home or on the road, and she needs to have big tits and be asian.
Pels: Ok
Agent: He wants to get paid half of his money in the first month of the year, then monthly increments the rest of the year.
Pels: Is AD having money problems? WHy does he need that money up front?
Agent: gives a cockameme excuse that he thinks sounds legit.
Pels: AD will get paid his $40M annual salary in monthly increments and be happy with his $3.3M monthly salary.
Agent: AD wants Solo to play better.
Pels: We are doing everything we can.
Agent: AD doesn't want to play the 5.
Pels: Are you trying to negotiate AD as the coach? We already have a coach. We will play AD that gives us the best chance to compete for a championship.
Agent: We are looking out for AD's long term health and think banging with the big 5's of the league aren't conducive to that.
Pels: We agree completely with that. We also have a defensive philosophy that maximizes AD's defensive abilities, and that means sometimes he will be guarding the 5 from the other team, but it's b/c that guys sucks arse and we want AD roaming the paint to protect the rim. You know nothing about basketball so shut the hell up and sign the damn contract moron.
Agent: Thanks for the $6-8M i'll make off this contract that took less than 5 minutes to negotiate.

It isn't time to freak out, but it is something to be aware of. If they for some reason struggle this year I think he is gone.

In all seriousness, I’ve heard the franchise was leaving from the first day it arrived.

I’ve heard that AD wasn’t long for Nola from the day his first contract was signed.

I think the reality is that the NBA is pretty well ensconced in Nee Orleans, and we’ll have AD for the foreseeable future if the team makes progress on the court.

The doomsday people can’t help themselves, but they’re proven wrong time after time.

I’m not going to spend time worrying about 2021.

Agree 100%

This basically just means there's no more freebies in my mind. From here on out, he wants to compete. The second we step backwards, he's gone.

Honestly; I think it's completely fair at this point, considering some of the BS seasons he had to go through with this organization.

Sources: Adidas sports marketing exec Marquise Watts is leaving the company and taking position as Klutch Sports‘ president of brand strategy. Watts had overseen Adidas basketball and has also worked at Under Armour.

klutch is morphing into an athlete branding company; they are about after-salary income. obviously, home market has some influence over opportunities for some players, but AD transcends home market

also, an excellent point by kumar:
quote:

My biggest complaint last year was the Pels pushing the MVP vote but not DPOY. In my eyes they did a really poor job of marketing him there. I'm hoping klutch can change that

and oleh kosel:
quote:

Think Anthony Davis joining Klutch Sports is going to turn out to be a great career move. Among other things, AD needed to reinvent his image. Ego, brashness, you name it, sells in the NBA, and AD was getting lost in the shuffle far too often when being compared to other greats.

Here's video of AD working with his "handle doctor" for the 2nd year in a row. LINK

Towards the end of the video he does more campaigning for MVP and being the best player in the world. He is staying on message like a politician. Switching agencies sure seems to be about something other than forcing a trade. For this year at least.

If he does that means they finish top 4 in the West.
He then definitely signs his extension.
