Do we send the 8 pick / Hayes / Graham to Suns for DA?

I think he would be the idea fit next to Zion. His defense is uhhh OK.

We would be def a tax team but this would be the best 5 in the league.

No, we can't pay a Center max money.

no thanks, and that isn't enough, and even though it's not enough to get him, i wouldn't give up the 8th pick to pay Ayton $30M/yr for the next 5 years.

Pass.

DA getting into a pissing match with Monty on camera during a blowout isn’t a good sign.

I have a feeling this will be an Eric Gordon situation where Ayton signs an RFA deal with a team and Phoenix matches, which leaves him pissed off even more.

Loosen up the purse strings, Gayle!!

But seriously, it would put us very quickly in the serious, serious tax hell. Like Golden State paying $150mil just in luxury tax type shite.

Ayton isn't worth the max, but his interior scoring and mobility would be an upgrade over Val. If that pick winds up in the 8-10 range, I would not be totally opposed to it. But it all depends on what the plan is moving forward with Zion.

Pho mismanaged this from the jump.

Suns locked in their core the moment they inked CP3.

Playing these games with Ayton has just built up resentment and may now have spilled into fully toxic.

And unless Ainge can convince himself and Ayton(maybe with Cam Johnson cause they are unlikely to pay him either) into a Sign and trade for Gobert, not sure what options Suns are left with other than a pennies on the dollar return ala Lonzo, or letting him walk(ownership is Shinn cheap after all).

Im of the opinion unless its Portland or some other Siberian NBA Team, he doesn't get a Max.

The other thought is Willie would know exactly what he can and cant do.

If for instance, we won the 4th pick in the draft things would get interesting.

Not to mention the team is in search of a new TV deal.

Edit: GT/Jax/DG is 23 mil going out.

Ayton is a very good player, but we just can't do it. He will get paid quite a lot.

We are at a point where we have to be pretty judicious with who we pay and don't pay.

We can't pay the tax even this year, it has to be at least another year tax free because of the repeater.

When Zion's extension kicks in, we may have to pay the tax, but we will only be able to afford it for 2-3 years tops.

You would have to sign and trade and send out JV too.

Would look more like JV, Graham, Hayes, Kira and a 1st.

No thanks, just makes the team way too expensive with trying to pay CJ, BI, Zion, and Ayton all max money.

The team is ready to compete now, and we have the draft pick capital to keep adding cheap depth and role players while hopefully landing another potential star with a top 10 pick this year.

If there is anywhere to go cheap in today's NBA, its at Center.

When you are going to be paying Guard, SF, and PF huge money, you'll need cheaper contributions at Center, other Guard, and 6th man.

He doesn’t need to sign with Portland, San Antonio, etc, to get max money, he just needs to have them as leverage.

Portland or Detroit are decent possibilities for leverage IMHO. Spurs don’t spend, Indiana is doing a rebuild, Orlando has big men coming out of their arse, etc.

Yep

Unless you got an Embiid or Jokic level center, putting a ton of money into the center position is likely to hinder you.

Ayton's gonna look to be the 5th highest paid center in the league most likely, and is he really elevating a team more than say, Timelord at 11-12 million?

Its all about allocation of assets.

We have a G,SF,PF. We can't pay a C or other G big money without going into the tax or decimating the bench.

To be honest, we really just need to continue to draft well.

I like Ayton, but we can't pay him. What's his max? 34M? He's more like a 24-25M guy imo.

Pretty much

The best thing this franchise could do this offseason is come away with another hit in the draft.

The two teams in the WCF don't even play real centers, most of the time. Look at the Dallas/GS rotations. We should't even be thinking about maxing Ayton.

For me, this extends to the draft as well. Im not spending max money for a non franchise center, and i'm not using a prime asset on one either.

Duren wouldn't even be on my board inside the top 10, if I were Griffin. He's the only potential top 10 guy we could draft that would aggravate me.

Current league is a small ball league, so I can agree to a point.

With the roster we have, I think the best option we have is likely getting a wing or another 4 who can help produce if/when Zion is out, possibly taking on a small-ball 5 role as well. We’re clearly going to have to load-manage him if he continues being fragile.

That means a Jabari Smith Jr / Banchero type or an Ivey / Sharpe type more than Chet. And it also means trading assets for an Ayton or Gobert is the wrong direction.
