I really don't think you can take anything away from AD not trying in the All Star game. He won MVP last year and knows he needs to be rested with Indy screwing the Pels like they did.

quote:

Scott Kushner @ScottDKushner 10 hours ago

AD on not playing at the end of the game: I didn't think I was (on a minutes restriction), but, hey, we won. So I'm happy about that. It's an All-Star Game, so I don't get caught up in that. Now, if it was the #Pelicans it would be a little different. But, I don't get caught up.

AD on the bunched up schedule in March: "I've never been a part of it (3 games in 3 nights), since AAU basketball. I know they did it a lot in the lockout year. We'll see how it goes, but it'll be big time attrition and it's about taking care of your body."

AD wasn't certain if he would have to sit out one of those games, with six in eight days. He said he'll see how his body feels. "We are fighting to get into the playoffs, so have to be mindful of that but don't want to put too much stress on my body."

I don't think he was either. I think they wanted to win, and he clearly didn't deserve to be out there to close the game out.

And i know i shouldn't take anythign away from an all star game, but just about everyone else was really trying, and AD gave minimal effort. The last game we played AD watched guys go at the rim and literally stood there and watched, never challenging them. In an all star game, you see Westbrook flying from behind to block a shot, Durant and Embiid getting blocks at the rim, Lebron jumping over Embiid for a rebound, and a host of other players fouling people driving to the goal, and AD looked content on letting anyone get to the rim without a challenge. That's why he sat on the bench at the end, on top of missing half the passes thrown to him.

ALl that being said, i'm glad he didn't try too hard and go and get himself hurt. I'll chalk up his lack of want to play to that.

I dont care about his plus minus.
I care about his minutes.
I care that he had fun.
I care that he showed that he cares about Boogie. Book it. Franchise is looking better after it.

As to Boogie contract.
Pels will offer him contract.
But it is waaaay to early to debate what kind.
Message was send.
Now Boogie has to work and both sides will evaluate.

Chill out.

I'm chill. And i did love the fact that he wore his jersey, and that looks great for our future.

It seems, at least from following AD and the Pels on social media, that AD does a ton of charity work around the community, and back in Chicago.

Boogie has done a lot too since he got here (still mad I didn't get a Boogie Claus shirt).

wes matthews tore his achilles tendon (sound familiar?). he signed with the mavs for 4/70.

demarcus cousins tore his achilles tendon. his max is something like 5/150.

yes...its the biggest gamble in recent NBA history

FWIW it is 5/175.

Still both sides have time.
Personally I would love 2+1.

1+1 Boogie wont agree

Incorrect, AD! You played on three straight days in the 2012 SEC tournament!

Boom.

even bigger gamble then...$35MM hit for 5 years with at best 4 years of production, next year being a realistic redshirt

and if he's never "boogie" again, catastrophic and untradeable. anyone not thinking this is a gamble, look no further than elton brand

I will not be happy if they give him the full 5 years. Let someone else take that risk, and i absolutely want him and AD to stay long term. No GM with a brain should be offering him a max deal after this injury.

given the history of the injury, a max 3 year contract with player option for the third year is more than fair. if he can't play, he still makes $100M, if he can, he'll make more with the 2+1 deal and a new contract than he would signing a 5 year deal.

All that being said, Cousins should always do what's best for him. If someone offers him 5 year max, he'd be dumb not to take it, i just hope no one does that.

Pels have always leverage with 5th year.
Others can only give 4. And lower raises.

2+1 make sense for both

Didn't Wes end up getting the max essentially since DeAndre bailed? I may be in the minority but if we don't offer Boogie a Max, someone else will(Lakers, probably). Cap numbers change over time, a 5 year max may not look too terrible in a couple years. Say we let Boogie walk, do we resign Mirotic to a 20 mil/year deal instead to have a complementary big to AD? And that's a conservative number for Mirotic. If we're gonna give Jrue the max, we for damn sure need to do the same for Boogie.

If the pels want to resign Cousins they will have to offer the max. I would assume they will offer both the five year max and the 2+1 and give him the choice.

If we let Boogie walk then AD's trade demand won't be too far behind. As usual the Pels have no flexibility and the only path forward is to hope for the best.

Speaking of resigning Boogie, Vegas has put odds on it with the Pels being heavy favorites and the Lakers really the only other close suitor. I'm surprised the Mavs are at the back of the pack.

Which team will DeMarcus Cousins sign with next???

#Pelicans: -150
#Lakers: +400
#Cavaliers: +750
#Bucks: +750
#Wizards: +750
#TrailBlazers: +1000
#Raptors: +1400
#Magic: +1600
#Mavericks: +2000

Looks like the main competition will be a Lakers team once they are spurned by PG and Lebron. Not surprised to see the Mavs as such long shots, but nice validation that they aren't a threat.

That would only be a choice if he was healthy. This isn't a choice for him now. He would take the 5 years in a heartbeat. The choice is what do we want to offer him. He's getting max annual salary regardless, it's how many years where the choice is.

I'd offer him a 2+1, a 3+1 and a 5. Then I'd show him the cap projections and what he could make by opting out early. 3+1 might actually be the best compromise. He doesn't potentially leave any money on the table that he could have gotten from another team, and if he gets back to being himself he can opt out and get raised to the 35% max under a higher cap. If he is still a really good player the Pels get him at a reduced rate for one more year than a 2 + 1, and if he's not, it's one year shorter than a 5 and with any luck he's expiring at an opportune time during a rebuild so you can trade him for a 1st and a bad contract.

I saw ESPN polled players on where some the free agents this summer will be next year and 80 percent of them said Cousins would still be with the pels.
