It seems lost in translation a bit, as much anticipated as Zions debut....

His offense is being talked about, but lets not forget he is OUTSTANDING on D as well.

If this team can mesh, we can play with anybody.

GO PELS!

He’ll have his bumps and bruises on defense no doubt. But once he gets used to everything he’ll be an amazing defender.

Maybe I'm mistaken but I remember him looking very lost at times on D during SL and preseason

He probably won’t be elite on defense right away. It’ll take a few games but his active hands and hustle will negate some early mistakes

he did have issues but at the same time that is preseason. Especially playing with teammates and starters that arent actually giving it their all during those games

See here is my issue with things like this. People tend to pick and choose. If nobody is giving their all on Defense then you have to assume the same for other teams. So maybe we should lower our expectations for Zion on offense as well? Since it was just preseason

Everyone was bad on defense in preseason. And everyone was bad to start the season. The defense has since been adjusted to the strength of the players which should allow Zion’s defense to be a lot better than it was in preseason. Now you’ll still see rookie mistakes as it is only natural but you’ll also get to see the things that makes him special on defense coming into the league. I’m not worried about his defense at all to be honest.

I don't think we do. I've seen multiple play break down types point out "This play Ingram scored on is the same one they were running with Zion in preseason." or "this Redick/Jaxson pick and rim run is the kind of thing they'll run with Zion." The team is already running sets we know Zion will excel at, he should be pretty plug and play. What he'll be asked to do won't be all that complicated vs. what he did in preseason.

A source had told me that Zion looked lost on D in practice prior to summer league and preseason, and it certainly showed in those games. There will be a learning curve but he will improve there

One of the big changes they made to the defense was making the defensive assignment of the big a lot easier. It seems to have made Okafor and Melli "improved", so I don't see why Zion can't step right in and be at least as passable as those 2.

Defense in the NBA is a long learning curve. Some players are just instinctual defenders and will be better than most, but team Defense also requires guys to have played together.

He's a high IQ player. He will get it, even if its not right away.
